What we’re looking for:

During the course of 2020, Informa Markets, like many businesses, experienced a year of unprecedented disruption. While the business’s large-scale exhibitions and business events were unable to trade, the organization adapted to connect buyers and sellers, government and stakeholders through a variety of digital channels. This innovation, in response to market need, is set to continue into 2021 and beyond, with the organization’s digital solutions becoming a key pillar of future product offerings.

The Chief Marketing Officer thinks and acts like a business leader, playing a key role in developing the business’s live and digital future. Putting the customer at the heart of sales and marketing activity, the CMO will play an important part in driving customer satisfaction, product development and financial growth. An experienced change agent and disruptor, the CMO will drive the business’s marketing performance through innovation and creativity with a relentless commitment to continuous improvement.

The candidate will be a seasoned and talented commercial and people leader, who can influence and develop both new and established products and teams. He or she will have a proven track record in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and leading through influence, growing and scaling the business with an astute understanding of effective change management practices.

In partnership with commercial, financial and product teams, this role will be responsible for the development and implementation of consistent data practices, customer focused marketing practices, driving high performance teams making decisions rooted in data and technology experiences. It is also critical to embrace and thoughtfully implement change ensuring the delivery of relevant and innovative content and experiences, as well as commercially viable standalone products.

Responsibilities:

Strategic leadership:

Drive the fusion of a strategic, long-term vision with practical short-term sales and marketing tactics

Key contributor to strategic ambition and short- and long-term business goals

Balance creativity and innovation with data-led decision making to deliver against strategic goals

Inspire marketers and wider business stakeholders’ commitment to innovation, customer focus and product excellence

Brand ownership, with a focus on product development and customer experience, to the extent that it impacts the short- and long-term financial performance of the brand(s)

Key actor in delivering against sustainability and diversity commitments

Key stakeholder in strategic partnerships and M&A activity

Business results:

Deliver against agreed financial KPI’s and business growth/revenue diversification targets

Develop and deliver short and long terms goals and strategically important KPI’s, including, but not limited to:

Audience acquisition and engagement

Database growth

Data quality

Customer and prospect engagement & conversion

Digital innovation and engagement

Continued development of a data-generating business culture that adheres to the tenets of data best practice

Continuing commitment to marketing best practice and marketing effectiveness

Develop and implement strategically important PR initiatives for the North America portfolio and the wider Informa Markets business

Ongoing product pricing analysis and recommendations

Customer Focus:

Cement focus on customer and market understanding and evidence-based decision making

Utilize customer insight to inform short-term decisions and product development and long-term strategy

Develop customer-first marketing strategies across products and families

Ensure rigor and consistency in collecting customer satisfaction metrics and delivering customer insight programs for continuous improvement

Innovation:

Key protagonist in business transformation - from exhibitions organizer to broader marketing services provider

Deep understanding of customer journeys used to make data-led technology recommendations

At the forefront of the marketing and event technology landscape, working with vendors and in-house teams to deliver best-in-class experiences

Drive continuous testing mentality and implement product development feedback mechanism

Drive collaboration and shared learning across both marketing and the wider business

Proponent of change and continuous improvement: “How can we go from good to great?”

People:

Champion a growth mindset

Cultivate and demonstrate a high-performance culture within the marketing function, with a robust framework for the recruitment and retention of qualified and professional talent - as well as the upgrading or replacement of existing staff

Drive culture of collaboration across marketing and the wider business

Support development and iteration of marketing team structures, competencies and capabilities are in place to deliver against strategic goals

In partnership with commercial marketing leads, ensure high performance and high-quality outputs from marketers against agreed targets

Ensure marketers and the wider business are living a customer-first mentality focusing on continuous experience improvement and delivery of best-in-class products

Facilitate shared learning: quick wins and fewer failures

Facilitate Marketing Function’s strategic impact across the portfolio as a whole

Working with the portfolio marketing teams to accelerate the adoption of latest marketing techniques made possible by marketing technology

Supporting effective people management utilizing Informa’s Talent Management framework, including:

Setting clear expectations and objectives

Providing regular and structured feedback & coaching sessions to drive a high-performance culture

Initiating recognition programs to reward and recognize individual and team achievement

What you bring to the team:

Essential

Strong commercial & business acumen

Business leadership experience

Inquisitive, creative and passionate

Extensive knowledge & experience of leading marketing functions

Excellent knowledge of the marketing technology ecosystem

Experience of recommending and implementing marketing and event technology

Highly collaborative

Proven track record of maximizing operational efficiency and proactive approach to headcount budget management

Awareness of roles within a functional matrix where other leadership decisions may impact own role

Strong customer-focused leadership ability

Detail-oriented and highly organized with the ability to handle various tasks simultaneously under multiple deadlines; demonstrated project management skills required

Digital Launch Experience

Skilled in anticipating future challenges and able to adapt to changing or unexpected circumstances positively

Experience acting as a change management ambassador, demonstrating a positive and constructive attitude towards challenges and change
