NYU Langone Health System Clinical Psychologist - Consultation Liaison Service in New York, New York

We are seeking a pediatric psychologist to work with children, adolescents, and families as part of collaborative team within our hospital's Consultation/Liaison (C/L) Service. The psychologist will also utilize clinical time to supervise doctoral-level psychology students, medical students, and psychiatry fellows working within the service. Additionally, the psychologist will lead the development of staff support programs and behavioral health educational series for staff, medical providers, and students.

The position carries an academic appointment within the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, which is one of only two independent child and adolescent psychiatry departments within an academic medical center in the nation.

The C/L Psychologist hired in this role will report to the Director of Ambulatory Integrated Behavioral Health, and the Director of the NYU/Bellevue Department of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry C/L Service. Supervision and mentorship will also be available from other seasoned psychologists in the Department.

The psychologist will:

Conduct brief psychological screening, assessment, and individual therapy with pediatric medical/surgical inpatients

Provide consultation and treatment on pediatric intensive care units (ICU's)

Provide evidenced-based treatment to patients and families coping with acute, chronic, and life-threatening illness

Develop behavioral management plans for patients on medical and surgical inpatient units with behavioral or developmental challenges and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members on the implementation of such plans

Consult and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop intervention strategies related to physical and psychosocial challenges

Provide trauma-informed care to patients and families on medical/surgical units, and work with interdisciplinary teams to deliver trauma-informed interventions

Perform initial consultation evaluations and follow ups, as requested, for safety evaluations, diagnostic clarification, and questions of decision-making capacity

Assist with patient, unit and staff relational dynamics, and provide recommendations to help in cases with challenging patient interactions

Develop educational activities for interdisciplinary providers and staff on inpatient units in conjunction with psychiatry attendings on C/L service

Chart patient visits using an electronic medical record

Triage and refer patients as needed to collaborating colleagues across disciplines, departments, and communities.

Participate in training Department of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry trainees

Contribute to quality improvement and clinical research efforts within this patient population

Collaborate on programmatic development for the Consultation-Liaison Care continuum

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology from an APA or CPA accredited institution

Completion of APA or CPA accredited pre-doctoral internship

Minimum of one year postdoctoral fellowship experience in a hospital or related medical setting preferred.

Licensed or license eligible in the State of New York.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior clinical experience in pediatric psychology settings. Prior experience in program development and evidence-based treatment of patients with chronic medical conditions and their families. Strong interest in clinical supervision and development of staff support and education programs.
