Commerce Writer, GQ

GQ.com is looking for a sharp, self-motivated writer to join the brand's Commerce team, focusing on product recommendations and service driven content for GQ's Recommends vertical and shopping platform. The writer will work directly with GQ's commerce editor and commerce director, along with other staff to develop, write, and optimize stories on a daily basis. The role requires an understanding for how GQ's broad interests in style and beyond lend themselves to engaging product recommendation stories, and will be able to develop fresh ideas, focus on SEO best practices, and imbue pieces with both voice and expertise. The ideal candidate also has enthusiasm for style, and menswear in particular, with knowledge of both the fashion and e-tail landscape. This role will also have an influence on, and potentially participate in, extensions of the Recommends vertical across newsletters, video, the GQ Best Stuff Box, and social media. This role reports to GQ's Global Commerce Director.

Primary Responsibilities

Write sharp, lively product recommendation posts on a daily schedule, with an emphasis on men's clothing.

Work with GQ's commerce director and others to achieve editorial excellence throughout GQ Recommends with a focus on voice, authority, and humor.

Be equally comfortable writing excellent display copy, optimizing a post for search, writing newsletter subject lines, and tagging a post accurately.

Conceive of and execute special shopping packages on key trends and events (Holiday Gift Guides, Summer Vacations, Black Friday sales, etc.) that are popular with readers and align with the site's business goals.

Work with the commerce director and audience development team to identify opportunities for GQ Recommends growth based on data and industry trends.

Work with key stakeholders to ensure that commerce content is adequately promoted through effective social media strategy, video, homepage placement, newsletters, and syndication relationships.

Liaise with GQ market editors, external PR, and other contacts

Consistently push Recommends stories to be engaging, relevant, and unique

Other duties as assigned

Skills & Qualifications

2+ years writing on deadline in a digital media environment, with experience in service journalism required and specific product recommendations preferred.

An understanding of and enthusiasm for style, and menswear in particular

Familiarity with affiliate link programs such as Skimlinks and/or Amazon

Strong organizational skills, self-directed work style, and polished communication skills

The ideal candidate will be fascinated by current events, pop culture, sports, men's style, and the subjects regularly covered by GQ.com.
