Commercial Insurance Underwriter - Builder's Risk and Vacant Buildings

This role is part of the Builder's Risk and Vacant Building programs with the primary focus of Underwriting new business submissions. The Builder's Risk program offers comprehensive commercial insurance coverage for construction, remodeler's risk, and Betterments Only to protect commercial, residential, and mixed-use properties. The Vacant Buildings program covers single and multiple-family dwellings, commercial, and mixed-use buildings. You will work very closely with brokers to ensure the accuracy of underwriting information, determine eligibility within program guidelines, ensure insurance files are well documented and servicing Broker's change requests. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluate new business submissions to ensure proper risk selection, premium and coverage within underwriting authority

  • Execute the post-bind account management workflow, answer questions and resolve problems, including initiation of billing, policy issuance, acquisition of account agreements, and file documentation and endorsements

  • Build new business pipeline through outbound interaction with clients

  • Create solutions for a broad range of inquiries from brokers and team members.

  • Promote teamwork and organizational success, while accepting accountability and ownership

  • Navigate our online broker portal to complete tasks and troubleshoot

  • Deliver an exceptional customer experience with every interaction, in all modes of communication

  • Identify opportunities to improve underwriting efficiencies

  • Work independently within deadlines while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with stakeholders

  • Obtain and understand market intel and trends

  • Handle work with a focus on underwriting profitability

PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of Builder's Risk underwriting experience required

  • Property and Casualty insurance license required (6 months preparation time permitted)

  • Hunger for continual learning; professional designations are a plus

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including negotiation skills

  • Must be self-driven, detail oriented, and possess strong organizational skills including time-management and prioritization

  • Some travel may be required from time to time

LOCATION

New York, NY. (Hybrid - Work from home days optional)

COMPENSATION AND PERKS

  • $60,000 - $85,000 base salary plus bonus. Salary commensurate with knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location
