Kohl's Contemporary Designer - RTW Collection in New York, New York

The Designer is responsible for the create of the RTW Collection for Kohl’s Private and Exclusive Brand(s).

Seeking a highly creative, detail-oriented, and team-oriented individual with a strong fashion sense, trend awareness, and industry knowledge based out of the New York Design Office.



  • Drives creation and delivery of design vision

  • Designs, owns, builds, creates and updates tech packs, trim sheets and design packages; ensures information is accurately entered into PLM

  • Actively participates in the conceptual development of the brand with Design Director

  • Provides direction for color and art development to artist

  • Advocates and influences trend ideas in assortments

  • Present designs in meetings and influences cross-functional partners on product direction

  • Partners with trend and Design Team to prioritize trends for area of responsibility and to share creative ideas

  • Researches the domestic market in order to identify new trends, fabrics, techniques, etc. and completes pre-packages

  • Meets with vendors for sourcing of fabric and trim and reviews seasonal concept direction

  • Ensures product consistency with market trends as well as business strategy

  • Shop and purchase samples for category ownership and conceptual direction (owns the fit for the categories they own)

  • Represent each Private and Exclusive brands aesthetic of assortments for RTW collection to influence design direction and overall image inherent for each brand with vendors, product management and merchants



  • Proficient in Illustrator or related system

  • Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design or related field


  • 5-7 years design experience

  • Previous retail experience

  • Ability to partner cross functionally

  • High attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously

  • Strategic thinker while being creative and innovative team oriented

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Strong understanding of product, accessory business and the competitive landscape

  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator and CAD

  • Elevated taste level
