PVH Corp. Copy Director - True & Co & Warners in New York, New York

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Copy Director is responsible for crafting the brand voice and messaging for both True & Co & Warners brands. This role is key in developing a consistent voice that will be carried throughout all business channels including website, emails, paid and organic social, POS, digital ads and marketing materials such as product naming and seasonal concepting. Working across multiple touch points, the Copy Director generates and contributes content focused on engaging customers and building brand awareness to ultimately drive sales.

The copywriter works closely with the brand, merchandising and marketing teams at all levels to develop on brand copy and concepts that can be messaged across the business. The copywriter is expected to actively contribute to the development of original solutions and create final deliverables whether working solo or within the greater team.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE JOB:

  • Own the voice of the both the True & Co and Warners brands, and ensure consistency across all channels.

  • Create original, innovative, clear, persuasive brand copy that strategically delivers key messaging to promote seasonal campaigns, key launches and product stories.

  • Proficient communicator, able to articulate and present engaging concepts as needed.

  • Responsible for product and color naming, and creating technical product copy (with freelancer), review for accuracy and brand alignment.

  • Maintain systems and copy bank for all copy; create database of all copy rounds, both current and final product copy, cleared product/franchise names, short form and long form descriptions, and any other product attributes or marketing copy.

  • Work closely with the legal team to clear names/colors, secure copyrights and trademarks and keep accurate records of all written intellectual proprieties.

  • Ensure accuracy of all copy execution (proof reading).

  • Collaborate with brand and cross functional teams to determine the content direction of branding and advertising initiatives.

  • Interact with marketing and merchandising leads to understand business objectives.

  • Translate product stories and marketing needs into seasonal content calendar that meets both business and brand objectives, building consumer interest and engagement across all consumer touch points.

  • Understand the business needs for wholesale partners to create effective marketing materials to support their business initiatives, while maintaining our brand standards.

  • Develop storytelling and messaging for website content, e-mail marketing and other marketing as needed.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

None (although this may change)

External:

Hires, oversees, and manages freelance copywriters as needed

INTERNAL & EXTERNAL CONTACTS:

Internal:

Senior Executives, Project Managers, Creative Leads, Art Directors and Designers, Merchandising, Marketing, and Product Designers.

External:

Creative/Marketing, PR, and Social media agencies, influencers, talent/models.

BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage and maintain budget as it relates to freelance copywriters.

DECISION MAKING:

Responsible for determining brand appropriate copy and making recommendations to support the tone of voice for all consumer facing communications.

RESOURCEFULNESS/CREATIVITY:

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and adapt easily to quick changes, requests and deadlines.

  • Organized, with the ability to build and maintain systems for communicating, sharing and distributing written content.

  • Detail oriented self-starter who isn’t afraid to ask questions.

  • Must be flexible and solution oriented with a positive attitude toward teamwork.

ENVIRONMENT:

Fast paced environment. Occasional late hours and weekend work could be required depending on seasonal concepts and specific project needs.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Experience:

  • 10+ years at a comparable brand/in house agency, advertising agency or in-house agency.

  • Proven creative ability.

  • A solid understanding of marketing and advertising principles

  • An exceptional copywriting portfolio with self-crated samples of multiple types of writing including brand copy, ad/marketing copy, product naming and descriptions, long and short form copy.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Accuracy and attention to detail.

  • An understanding of the latest trends and their role within a commercial environment.

  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.

  • Ability to actively contribute to strategic brainstorming, campaign development, creative brief development and creative execution.

Education: BA in English, journalism, communications or a related field

Skills:

  • Exceptional writing skills, including the ability to write in a range of voices and styles for a variety of brands.

  • Experience with strategic concepting, campaign development and creative execution.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Self-motivated and capable of working collaboratively across multiple teams.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and effectively juggle diverse writing demands.
