Work you'll do

As an Applied AI Summer Associate, you will have opportunities to make an impact on a broad range of transformative projects for our clients. Applied AI Summer Associates will:

  • A designer will apply human-centered design processes as a tool to produce effective communications and solutions throughout client engagements

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams of product managers, software engineers, data scientists, designers, and subject matter experts to help document requirements.

  • Think critically and develop models for visualization, interaction, sensor, machine and voice or mash ups of new and existing data sources.

You can capitalize on our cross-industry presence to find your niche and begin building your individual brand. This person should have strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to solve complex problems and communicate findings.

The Team

The Analytics & Cognitive team leverages the power of data science, analytics, robotics, and AI technologies combined with the design thinking methodologies with a deep understanding of the user to uncover hidden relationships from vast troves of data, generate insights, and inform decision-making. Together with the Strategy practice, our Strategy & Analytics portfolio leads our clients through strategic choices and transformations ahead of disruption by driving competitive advantage through humans with machines.

The Roles


Data Scientist

ML Engineer


The Analytics & Cognitive team works with our clients to:

  • Implement large-scale data ecosystems including data management, governance and the integration of structured and unstructured data to generate insights leveraging cloud-based as well as client-owned platforms

  • Deploy automation, cognitive and science-based techniques to manage data, predict scenarios and prescribe actions

  • Drive operational efficiency by maintaining their data ecosystems, sourcing analytics expertise and providing As-a-Service offerings for continuous insights and improvements

Required Qualifications for all roles:

  • Ability to work independently, collaborate with others and manage multiple task assignments

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills (for example, MS PowerPoint)

  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment

  • Ability to travel up to 50%

  • Strong academic track record (preferred GPA of 3.5 or higher)

  • Limited immigration sponsorship may be available

Required Qualifications

Designer Skills

  • Pursuing a Master's degree, with a graduation date between by December 2023 and August 2024, in one of the following disciplines:

  • Graphic/ Communication Design

  • Industrial Design

  • Architecture

  • Human-Computer Interaction

  • Human Factors

  • Cognitive Science / Psychology / Linguistics

  • Proficient in design tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Sketch, Invision and Figma

  • Knowledge of UX design methodologies

  • Experience capturing requirements and articulating business goals and challenges

  • Strong UI and visual design skillset

  • Understanding of information hierarchy and organization with a clear intention based on a user-centric point of view

  • A portfolio demonstrating user-centric design thinking through story telling

Data Scientist Skills

  • Pursuing a Master's degree, with a graduation date between by December 2023 and August 2024, in one of the following disciplines:

  • Data Science

  • Applied AI

  • Computer Science

  • Statistics

  • Mathematics

  • Physics, or a closely related field

  • Experience with R or Python, database design, and SQL

Developer Skills

  • Pursuing a Master's degree, with a graduation date between by December 2023 and August 2024, in one of the following disciplines:

  • Computer Science,

  • Computer Engineering,

  • Information Management or a related field

  • Familiarity with the agile methodologies & software development lifecycle (SDLC)

  • Experience developing web applications with SOA, RESTful APIs, and/or MVC architectures

  • Familiarity with scripting languages (JavaScript (Node.js) / Python)

  • Development experience with a high-level language (Java or C#)

  • Hands-on experience in HTML, JavaScript, and CSS

  • Cloud development experience (AWS, GCP, Azure etc.)

  • Hands-on experience in SQL or NoSQL database environments

ML Engineer

  • Pursuing a Master's degree, with a graduation date between by December 2023 and August 2024, in one of the following disciplines:

  • Data Science

  • Applied AI/Artificial Intelligence

  • Electrical Engineering

  • Computer Science

  • Computer Engineering

  • Statistics

  • Mathematics

  • Physics, or a closely related field

  • Experience with R or Python, database design, and SQL

  • Knowledge of the data science and analytics lifecycle

  • Knowledge of C++, Java, or other object-oriented programming language

  • Experience with application or software development

  • Familiarity with the agile methodologies & software development lifecycle (SDLC)

  • Experience with cloud development (AWS, GCP, Azure etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

Data Science and ML Engineers:

  • Implementing Apache Open Source (Kafka, Storm, Spark) Frameworks to process end to end data management life cycle for NLP, Machine Log Algorithms, Text Mining algorithms

  • Experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Linguistics, Advanced Semantic Design

  • At least 6 months experience working with SparkCognition, Expert System, Microsoft Cognitive Services, IBM Watson, Numenta, Deepmind, CognitiveScale, CustomerMatrix, IPSoft, Salesforce Einstein, Google Cloud Platform/Tensor Flow, or Amazon Web Services/Sagemaker, Microsoft Azure/Machine Learning and common open source scripting languages


  • Java Script Programming at User Interface (UI) level: ReactJS, AngularJS, NodeJS

  • SQL/No- SQL database knowledge

  • Cloud development and deployment knowledge (AWS, GCP, Azure)

  • DevOps and MLOps


  • Preferred experience in Data Visualization Design, AI Experience Design, Conversational AI design, Product design or software design

    For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York City, Deloitte is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to New York City and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate is $2,015 per week.
