Job Description

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a seasoned corporate fundraiser and leader, who will develop, drive and lead our work and efforts with existing global corporate partners in support of IRC’s mandate to help refugees survive, recover and gain control of their future.

Since its inception in 1933, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. This senior role is part of the International Philanthropy and Partnerships (IPP) team, which leads on the IRC's engagement with corporations, foundations, international philanthropists, and new global funding streams.

The ideal candidate is a senior global relationship manager, with a track record of both leading teams in the successful execution, and deepening, of global corporate partnerships, as well as personally managing and growing strategic partnerships with global corporate partners across a variety of different sectors, at the 6 and 7-level figure in support of humanitarian and development work. They must be well-placed to inspire a team of fundraising experts to grow holistic, 360-degree corporate partnerships across various business sectors and impact trajectories in support of IRC’s programs around the world. They will also demonstrate passion for the IRC's mission, nuanced understanding of private sector fundraising and sectoral corporate trends, and dedication to the organization's diversity, equity, and inclusion values.

To date, IPP has had enormous success in key global sectors such as (financial services, healthcare, consumer goods, fintech, technology et al) but we seek to expand our footprint in a wider range of corporate partners and partnerships.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Leads the team in the successful execution of a multi-year, long-term growth strategy across sectors and portfolios. Encourages, guides and mentors staff under their supervision to achieve their individual and collective targets by bringing forward best-in-class perspective; sectoral knowledge; fundraising trends and other insights.

  • Sets and embodies a best-in-class account management culture within the corporate, and by extent the wider IPP team. Speaks on behalf of, and for, the unique characteristics, opportunities and challenges associated with the principles of account management in the corporate fundraising sphere.

  • Fosters an environment that supports new insights and innovative approaches to partnership development and relationship management that is globally applicable and/or that might have specifically different adaptations across various sectors;

  • Works effectively alongside their Business-Development peers to develop, execute upon and effectively socialize appropriate, effective and competitive workflow structures and principles that will allow the IRC to offer a best-in-class engagement journey for corporate partners and the team to continue growing its corporate revenue, pipeline and strategic alliances;

  • Leads and supports the corporate team’s efforts by personally cultivating and soliciting high-level, high-impact partnerships that call for a level of seniority/technical competence where director-level participation is relevant and appropriate

  • Remains up to date with the latest trends on global partnership management across industries and sectors, with a particular focus on the retention and growth of the current IPP sectors (namely financial services, healthcare, technology, and consumer-facing partnerships to include gaming, consumer package goods, travel and media) as well as to diversify our portfolio of partners and partnerships to include new modalities of corporate engagement and new sectors, where/if applicable

  • Provides dynamic and effective thought leadership for the Global Corporate Partnerships team’s efforts towards increased financial and non-financial engagement with business, to further the IRC’s mission, inclusive of operational partnerships, cause-related marketing, gifts-in-kind, employee engagement, advocacy, and thought leadership with the private sector.

  • Act as an inspiring leader within IPP- teaming up with the other IPP Directors, in maintaining, cultivating and developing a best-in-class global fundraising team across other IPP pillars in support of IPP’s and IRC’s income aspirations.

  • Support the team’s and organization’s DEI efforts through development of multi-faceted partnerships that benefit a wide range of clients with varying backgrounds

  • Collaborate across the High Value Fundraising teams on initiatives that span departments, to include but not be limited to our joint dedication to a diverse, positive and inclusive work environment

  • Collaborate with the Global Philanthropy and Partnership Services (GPPS) team on the conceptualization, development and implementation of standards, tools and procedures towards an outstanding approach to international private sector engagement and fundraising

    Key Working Relationships:

    You will report to:Senior Director, Global Corporate Partnerships;

    Your position supervises:5 Associate Directors each allocated to a specific sectoral expertise (technology; healthcare; financial services; gaming; consumer good and other sectors).

    Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree. Advanced University degree in Business Administration, Economics, Communications, International Relations, Finance or other field relevant to the IRC;

  • Extensive experience (8 years+) in the corporate fundraising and partnership space; particularly in managing corporate fundraisers in a similar scope/scale of portfolio, organizational size and team- and in an account management role of similar scope. Sectoral insight/expertise would be a strong asset. Previous experience across a wide range of sectors and modalities (to include cause-related marketing) would be strongly preferred.

  • Management experience in guiding, leading and motivating a successful, complex team. Global experience is highly desirable.

  • Direct experience with corporate partnerships and fundraising techniques, including acquiring financial support for projects and securing large donations. Desirable: tangible achievements in the account management space.

  • Consistent record of negotiating and securing seven figure plus corporate partnerships;

  • Understanding of how to reconcile the needs of an organization with those of the private sector partner;

  • Demonstration of creativity and problem solving in working with corporate partners;

  • Ability to explain sophisticated issues to donors and prospects and present the organization in an engaging and concise manner.

  • Good understanding of the challenges and issues faced by field offices;

  • Excellent digital literacy (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, etc.);

  • Excellent communication skills with good interpersonal and negotiation skills;

  • Knowledge and curiosity about humanitarian/international development work.

    Desired/ Good to have:

  • Multiple languages a plus.
