BMO Financial Group Director, Broker Dealer Controller in New York, New York

Controller for US Institutional broker/dealer who leads/manages the accounting and regulatory reporting teams. Works closely with business leaders, Finance Partners, and operations to ensure compliance with 15c3-3 and 15c-3-1 rules. Generates information and insights that can support key business decisions to drive value, and improve efficiency/control. Acts as a subject matter expert on relevant capital/reserve regulations and policies. May network with industry contacts to gain competitive insights and best practices.

  • Manages relationships with regulators, including FINRA/SEC/CME/NFA/OCC.

  • Manages the annual audit process with external auditor

  • Ensures a strong control environment and compliance with 17a-5 program.

  • Develops a high functioning and efficient team.

  • Supervises the monthly/quarterly FINRA reporting, including balance sheet, P&L, capital report, etc.

  • Supervises the monthly security reporting, CECIL reporting, and other ad hoc reporting, as necessary.

  • Determines the capital impact of initiatives/ strategic business decisions, and incorporate the impacts into future capital forecasts/plans.

  • Breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide financial insights and recommendations.

  • Employs systems (e.g. customized exception reports, tracking reports etc.) to manage information.

  • Integrates information from multiple sources (e.g. financial and operational systems) to enable more efficient processes, enhanced analysis and/or streamlined reporting

  • Acts as a trusted regulatory advisor to the business.

  • Recommends and implements solutions based on analysis of issues and implications for the business

  • Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.

  • Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.

  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Typically 9+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • CPA required

  • Series 27 required.

  • Provides technical leadership as a thought leader for innovation as the most seasoned expert with extensive industry knowledge.

  • Seasoned expert with extensive industry knowledge.

Salary:

$140,800.00 - $261,800.00

Salaried

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
