You Will

The Director, Corporate Communications:

  • Leads the creation and execution of communications plans that support Girl Scouts of the USA’s (GSUSA) strategic business goals, including drafting and editing internal and external communications for key stakeholders, such as writing or refining messaging, reports, memos, and presentations through existing communications channels.

  • Partners with the Office of the National Board to support the board’s communications needs.

  • Partners with GSUSA sensitive issues and/or media relations communications colleagues on breaking news as needed to help solidify Girl Scouts’ excellent brand reputation.

  • Possesses the knowledge and stature to offer counsel to GSUSA and council colleagues on best practices for these types of strategic communications.

  • Helps to manage the work of freelancers and interns as needed, training them to achieve GSUSA brand voice and deliver materials that reach the highest levels of quality, and may also manage or mentor other less seasoned staff as they are hired.

  • Demonstrates creativity and flexibility, can change direction on a project as needed; develops creative content ideas and executes them; seeks out collaboration with colleagues; is a self-starter who’s not afraid to take on challenges’

  • Possesses a thorough understanding of communications concepts, including knowing or demonstrating the ability to learn specific GSUSA branding and messaging policies, and excellent corporate communications planning and writing skills, including either knowledge of or willingness to learn GSUSA’s preferred writing style (Chicago Style).

Required Technical Skills

Office 365 or similar suites

Competency in PowerPoint or similar presentation software

Competency in Microsoft Excel or similar software

You Need

Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, or another liberal arts degree that requires significant writing and analysis is preferred

Minimum of eight (8) years related experience in corporate or internal communications working for a corporation, PR agency, or nonprofit, or the equivalent experience.
