Position Summary

The Director of International Recruitment will work closely with the Executive Director of Recruitment and leads in the strategic planning, development and execution of international student recruitment for the Degree and Non-Degree programs at Columbia University's School of Professional Studies. The incumbent will be responsible for working with academic programs, marketing staff and others to develop regional student recruitment strategies that serve the needs of both degree and non-degree programs. They will identify and develop regional networks that include schools, professional associations and other organizations that advance programs' student recruitment efforts in key international regions. S/he will build new relationships with sending organizations, host recruitment events, and strengthen SPS’ presence and reputation across the globe. The position’s goal is to yield the most highly qualified students and provide exemplary support throughout the enrollment process to the students for the School's diverse portfolio of Degree and Non-Degree programs.

Responsibilities

Collaboration with Academic program team and other relevant stakeholders to develop annual international recruitment plan.

  • Research, identify, assess, and develop new recruitment opportunities with sending institutions, including universities, government scholarships, and non-profit organizations to promote recruitment of best fit students.

  • Serve on the review committees for establishing new Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with University partnerships and new partnerships with education recruitment agencies for non-degree programs; Manage partnership contracts and Memoranda of Understanding in compliance with the appropriate legal and university based standards.

  • Establish strong and fruitful relationships with academic, business, and government leaders as well as the Columbia Global Centers to promote recruitment of high caliber international students.

  • Maintain a detailed understanding of the admissions process and the School's programs to ensure partnerships are aligned with Admissions policy and support the funnel and yield of the students for each unique program.

  • Lead efforts for tracking analytics and impact metrics in order to promote data-driven decision-making. Maintain records and produce regular reports to track outcomes specific to recruitment initiatives.

  • Planning and execution for School wide and Program specific events

  • Work with internal stakeholders to support all School and Program specific events planning, set up, and follow-up on Slate.

  • Host information sessions for partner and sending institutions and support operational processes for incoming partner students. Manage online and in-person fairs and recruitment events. Facilitate in-person visits through coordination of meetings, campus visits, and tour.

  • Leverage alumni engagement for recruitment initiatives.

  • Provide budgetary oversight for all expenses to ensure alignment with budget targets. Develop and manage calendar of recruitment activities and track year over year recruitment activity and results. Calculate ROI from targeted outreach events and look for cost efficiencies.

Prospect outreach and communication plan and Reputation Management

  • Build out communication plan for prospects, in-progress applicants, and admitted students to yield the most qualified students.

  • Build operational processes that promote a Program and Prospect-centered experience.

  • Implement surveys to better understand non-start reasons for admitted populations, and build initiatives to better capture these populations in future cycles.

  • Develop a comprehensive communications strategy for international prospects and applicants to highlight the breadth and depth of SPS programs, faculty, curriculum, students, alumni outcomes on local web and social media platforms.

  • Communicate SPS updates across the region with visits, web and social media presence, and materials aimed at increasing the profile and visibility of SPS.

Perform other responsibilities and manage special projects as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 5 years of related experience with and knowledge of a large university system in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a Related Field.

  • A deep and broad network of international academic, government, and business communities.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact and collaborate with diverse constituencies in a professional manner.

  • Prior experience living or working abroad

  • Experience managing a team.

  • Previous admissions, recruitment, talent selection, or career management responsibilities.

  • Familiarity with SPS program offerings.

Other Qualifications

  • Fluency in both English and one other language.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the year.

  • An appreciation of Columbia University and the impact of its research and education.

  • Prior experience in higher education recruitment or admissions.

  • Knowledge of graduate education enrollment trends and best practices in graduate education admissions standards.

  • Excellent project management skills; demonstrated ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills (verbal and written), and experience presenting in small group and large group settings, and to a variety of audiences, including individuals in positions of influence.

  • Intellectual curiosity, sound problem-solving and decision-making abilities, and strength in creative and innovative thinking. High energy and passion for recruiting.

  • CRM proficiency preferred; Proficient in MS Office/systems (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel as needed during peak seasons.
