Brown and Caldwell Director of Building Mechanical Design in New York, New York

Job Expectations:
For the right candidate, this position offers the opportunity to be the technical leader of a growing team to implement and update standards to reduce the price of our services, consistently deliver quality and improve project performance. We are looking for candidates who are visionary and strategic thinkers that have a passion for building things, meeting new people, and desire to work with seasoned professionals who perform industrial and municipal projects within the water/wastewater field. Success in this position is predicated upon your ability to be a strong leader and effective communicator.

Primary responsibilities include:
Determine what the discipline services include.
Determine which discipline services are in-house versus subcontracted.
Oversee the discipline subconsultant/subcontractor selection approval process.
Direct the development of the discipline technical standards and oversee their maintenance and implementation.
Oversee the selection of delivery tools to support the discipline.
Advise management and approval of the discipline labor resources (i.e. hiring, spot bonuses, merit, locations of hiring, balance of grade levels).
Oversee the professional development of discipline resources.
Manage the discipline professional engineer licensing coverage.
Advise on discipline staff performance management.
Direct discipline-specific QC efforts.
Direct discipline-specific BD efforts.

Position Requirements
BS Engineering degree in the mechanical discipline or related field (MS preferred).
Licensed Professional Engineer with ability to acquire licensing within additional states within one year as needed.
Minimum of 20 years’ experience working for government, municipal, and/or industrial water and wastewater industries.
Successful candidates will have direct experience implementing and updating standards.
Effective oral and written communication with the social skills necessary to genuinely motivate and direct the staff to produce high quality work, to maintain high individual and group morale
Be enthusiastic, self-motivated, and work independently with a willingness to learn
Candidate should be a self-starter, results-oriented and be able to work under tight and pressured deadlines
Ability to travel to team locations as needed. Travel requirements are anticipated to be an average of 20% of the time.
