DoSomething.org Director of Marketing in New York, New York

DIRECTOR OF MARKETING

Reports to: VP, Communications & Marketing

Target Start Date: November 1, 2021

Location: DoSomething.org has its headquarters in NYC. As a result of COVID-19, DoSomething staff are working fully remote. DoSomething is exploring a hybrid return to office approach with a target of winter 2021. Preferably, candidates will be based in the New York City Metro area, but candidates in other locations within the U.S. will be considered.

DoSomething.org is a youth-led movement for good. We have the stability of a 28-year-old institution, but we look, feel, and operate like a tech-forward nonprofit. THE POSITION

Marketing is at the heart of DoSomething’s ability to elevate our youth-focused social impact campaigns, in partnership with our brand and scholarship partners. DoSomething is seeking a strategic thinking, collaborative, and results-oriented, Director of Marketing to support the Communications and Marketing team with executing over a dozen dynamic, innovative and impactful campaigns and programs .

Reporting to the VP, Marketing & Communications, the Director of Marketing contributes to the mission and vision of DoSomething.org by creating and overseeing the strategy for all facets of DoSomething’s social impact marketing campaigns and programming to ensure that we exceed expectations of our corporate partnerships, activate youth for systemic social impact, and elevate the DoSomething brand. This role also oversees talent management and supports our scholarships programs.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Brand & Marketing Strategy & Partnerships (35%).

  • Conceptualize, lead and execute campaigns that elevate the voices of young people with an emphasis on innovative social media and digital promotion strategies consistent with other organizational and communications plans.

  • Work with our Manager, Brand Marketing to steward and secure new and existing marketing partnerships across all verticals (TV, out of home, online & print mags, radio, etc). This includes:

  • Create, maintain and grow a pipeline of key strategic brand and marketing partnerships.

  • Identify innovative approaches to partnership models and campaign activation showcasing DoSomething's value proposition.

  • Structure and negotiate partnership agreements, terms and promotional requirements.

  • Recommend strategies to promote the brand and its members; liaise with marketing agencies to support brand marketing & thought leadership.

  • Serve as a cross-functional marketing advisor to ensure successful execution of priority integrated marketing efforts.

  • Help ensure that marketing strategies reflect the diversity of young people and creates and reinforces an environment of inclusion.

    New Product, Content & Capabilities Development (20%). :

  • Operationalize the strategic vision and growth plans for DoSomething by working with key stakeholders to champion new product and platform releases to reach new and broader audiences. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • New content strategies for our social platforms and newsletter distribution lists.

  • Improvements to core product functionality.

    Paid Media & Data Leadership (15%).

  • Oversee the implementation of our paid media strategy.

  • Provide leadership around performance management to find efficiencies in our spend to continuously improve our process and strategically test.

  • Work with our Manager, Digital Marketing and Marketing Associate, Paid Media and other cross-functional teams to monitor campaigns and their effectiveness rigorously, using a strong analytical focus to understand campaign impact, provide recommendations for optimization, and future performance improvements.

    Team Management (30%).

  • Lead a team of individuals in the strategic planning, implementation and assessment of high-level multichannel marketing campaigns and initiatives directly in line with the organization’s strategic goals and objectives.

  • Manage and mentor a team to set and achieve objectives, KPI’s and performance development goals consistent with the strategic plan and linked to performance outcomes.

  • Provide comprehensive professional development, direction and team building to cultivate a team that reflects the communities we serve and seek to serve; and advocate for continuous growth and development of reports.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • You have 5-7+ years of direct experience in a marketing-related field, with specific focus in social and digital marketing strategy development and execution.

  • You have 3-5+years of experience managing people and teams to successfully deliver on team and organizational goals and objectives.

  • You have experience building and nurturing strategic partnerships with marketing partners to elevate our brand and programming

  • You have experience with analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics) and reporting of data from a marketing and business point of view.

  • You have experience taking broad visions and concepts for paid media to develop structured plans, actions and measurable metrics and then execute on those plans

  • You have worked in an agile environment and have experience in pivoting and evolving strategies to satisfy member messaging needs in excellence for both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Preferably, you’ve worked for a social impact organization , in an agency setting or as part of a larger marketing or brand strategy team

  • You take a creative and innovative approach to developing solutions to organizational challenges, driving continuous improvement to programs and processes, and implementing effective and smooth product change initiatives across the organization via smart conventional and unconventional methods.

  • You are a people manager with a proven track record of successfully building, retaining and developing diverse teams, and of consistently employing inclusive and race-intentional leadership practices to engage and grow reports. A discernible passion for developing and mentoring junior team members is a must

  • You are pop culture conscious and have a curiosity for, and a finger on, the pulse of current events and trends among our primary demographic, and the ability to apply an intersectional equity and inclusion lens to inform understanding of youth culture throughout the identity and political spectrums.
