The Planning and Budgeting solutions are Medidata’s solutions to aid the budget to payment needs in the life science industry. The position has been created to join Design Optimizer, Grants Manager Planning and Grants Manager Contracting into a straight through business process for Medidata customers to ease their study planning needs. This end to end, fully integrated platform that enables customers to plan and implement a scalable budget to payments solution. Representing one of the largest and most innovative investments within Medidata, the Clinical Trial Financial Management suite is already being adopted by leading industry players (sponsor and CROs) and is expected to fundamentally change the way clinical trial budgets are designed and executed.
The Director of Product - Planning and Budgeting is a key position within the Clinical Trial financial Management product team, reporting to the Vice President of Product. In this role, you will take ownership of the Study Management portfolio part of the Clinical Trial Financial Management suite, including Design Optimizer, Grants Manager Planning and Grants Manager Contracting.
This role is the unifying force behind Medidata’s product strategy and execution, combining feedback from sales, marketing, development, customers and prospects to set the strategic vision and lead the execution on new features and products. Communicate vision and strategy to product managers, owners, and business analysts and UX to ensure accountability and successful delivery of new and current products.
In this role, you’ll work to create a roadmap for a Design Optimizer, Grants Manager Planning and Grants Manager Contracting, working with internal SMEs, commercial and marketing teams, and key charter customers along the way.
The Director of Product will be a seasoned, disciplined and passionate leader with proven experience in Enterprise SaaS. The role requires a smart, creative and highly organized individual that has demonstrated that s/he can lead, inspire, grow and empower highly-talented and highly committed individuals, yet can be hands-on if/when necessary to get things done.
Sets and manages team member budgets
Creates initial business case (including pricing/margin/volume)
Partners with functional departments to ensure understanding/commitment
Partners with Finance to inform budget preparation
Partners with functional departments to ensure consistency with the P&L
Identifies and presents any P&L changes to the business along with recommendations
Manage the overall product portfolio
Assesses market position
Identifies and translates key market/customer needs into offerings
Utilizes customer and market input to develop new product opportunities, overall product roadmap, and portfolio analysis and allocation
Creates and seeks approval on strategic plan
Optimizes investments/spend against priority actions (e.g., maintenance, new development)
Makes program commitment
Works with team to develop marketing and launch plan
Conducts channel readiness
Establishes pricing to market
Represents the entire product organization at internal and external meetings
Owns the customer offering from enablement to execution (end-to-end PLM)
Defines market requirements to ensure seamless hand-off to R&D
Manages partner/vendor relationships/deals
Manages market value proposition to product lifecycle management (PLM) to product delivery processes
Conducts sales, operational and channel readiness
Define, own and communicate a product roadmap that delivers products and features that drive revenue growth through strong positioning and differentiation
Ensure product definitions meet and exceed immediate and long-term business, customer, and market expectations
Collaborate on product business cases that capitalize on market opportunities to generate revenue growth
Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Quality, & Project Management to ensure timely development and delivery of high-quality products within an agile development framework
Ensure availability and open communications of roadmap and product development plans at all stages of the product lifecycle
Identify areas of innovation across the product suite, and collaborate with stakeholders to define solutions that anticipate changing customer and market environments
Identify and recruit talent to ensure effective mix of competencies within the team
Effectively on-board new hires in order to quickly maximize performance
Set and communicate team/individual objectives and key performance indicators to motivate individuals to achieve high performance
Allocate workload to fully utilize every employee’s skills and abilities
Implement development plans and coach individuals to reach their maximum potential
Provide ongoing constructive feedback on performance and address development needs in a timely manner
Recognize high performers to maintain motivation and retain key talent
Regularly communicate relevant company information and progress against business plan
Provide opportunities for team development and interaction
Your Education & Experience:
Master’s degree strongly preferred
10+ years with BS, 8+ years with MS
4+ years of people management experience
Relevant experience with SaaS products and/or Life Sciences
Agile experience strongly preferred
Demonstrable experience of face-to-face working with clients
Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
