Reports to: VP, Product & Engineering

Target Start Date: February 15, 2022

Location: has its headquarters in NYC. As a result of COVID-19, DoSomething staff are working fully remote. DoSomething is exploring a hybrid return to office approach with a target of spring 2022. Preferably, candidates will be based in the New York City Metro area, but candidates in other locations within the U.S. will be considered.

DoSomething seeks a strategic, solutions-oriented Director of Product. You will play a key role in galvanizing DoSomething’s millions of youth members to take action on innovative and impactful programming and campaigns by creating and executing product features that align with the strategic plan.

Reporting to the VP, Product & Engineering, the Director of Product contributes to the mission and vision of DoSomething by managing the strategic vision and execution of DoSomething’s product initiatives. You will w ork in close collaboration with all departments in the organization to identify data-backed product initiatives and solutions that activate and catalyze young people to participate in DoSomething’s social impact campaigns and programming.


Strategic Visioning & Process Management (45%). Gain a deep understanding of DoSomething’s members, strategic priorities, and organizational goals to develop a product vision and comprehensive short-, medium- and long-term roadmap.

  • Define a product vision and strategy with the VP, Product & Engineering ; cascade product goals into quarterly or semi-annual objectives.

  • Leverage deep understanding of customer experience to identify and fill product gaps and generate new ideas that improve the customer experience and grow the business.

  • Build deep partnerships with technical teams to ensure a clearly communicated and actionable plan for achieving the vision given the technology platforms and development timelines.

  • Build and manage an up to date roadmap; identify, negotiate, articulate, and build understandings of priorities and tradeoffs.

    Product Execution (35%). Work with a cross-functional team to build innovative products for our members and drive towards business learnings and goals.

  • Create short-, medium- and long-term plans for testing and monitoring new product features; document clear product specifications, provide QA support, groom backlog to support agile sprints, analyze and monitor site health, monitor product feature success for iteration.

  • Participate in and review user research projects and findings to leverage learnings into product enhancements and new features.

  • Negotiate and manage vendor relationships to coordinate integration with our platforms and conduct build vs buy assessments as needed.

    Organizational Leadership & People Management (20%). Ensure all team members are clear on organizational goals and how their work directly contributes to those goals.

  • Provide comprehensive professional development, direction and team building to cultivate a team that reflects the communities we serve and seek to serve; and advocate for continuous growth and development of reports.

  • Partner with peers and collaborate throughout every level of the organization to assess, iterate and evolve critical organizational processes and to drive innovation and ideation across departments.

  • Act as a brand ambassador for DoSomething’s mission, vision, and programs.


  • You have a passion for research and product innovation with 6+ years of direct experience managing a product roadmap and shipping products in a product management role and 4+ years experience managing consumer facing products; leading all aspects of product management, from research and ideation, to design, experimentation, launch, and iteration.

  • You have 3+ years experience as a people manager in a cross-collaborative, agile environment , running multiple agile teams and collaborating with teams of designers, researchers, product managers, and engineers throughout the product development process.

  • You have experience goal setting and working with OKRs and KPIs and have balanced long and short term strategic projects while focusing teams on the most impactful work.

  • You have worked with prioritization frameworks and roadmaps, are organized, efficient, and know how to ruthlessly prioritize and wrangle many stakeholders.

  • You have strong communication, facilitation, presentation, and interpersonal skills for a variety of settings, formats, and audiences (technical and non-technical).

  • You have experience with qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and are fluent at using both types of data to prioritize and draw meaningful conclusions that tie back to business or product goals.


  • You’ve made a commitment to intersectional equity and have an ability to lead across differences and model a commitment to continuous learning and exploration of race, equity, inclusion and cross-cultural competency in the workplace.

  • You have s trong judgment and decision making when analyzing problems and developing effective, viable solutions that drive the effectiveness of the team and the organization as a whole.

  • You are solutions-oriented and can navigate complex or constrained situations to find solutions, intuit where to compromise and where to hold firm, and consistently deliver on required business results.

  • You have an operational/business mindset with a proven track record of building processes for managing workflows of complex projects and competing priorities; you know how to maximize impact while maintaining appropriate resourcing to take “smart” risks and learn from mistakes.

  • You are a strategic thinking visionary able to see and communicate the big picture in an inspiring way; determining opportunities and threats through comprehensive analysis of current and future trends.

  • You believe in young people and are curious about the needs and wants of young people across the spectrum of identity and difference and believe that their involvement in civic engagement, democracy, human services, etc has the power to change young people, their communities and the world!

  • You are pop culture conscious and have a curiosity for, and a finger on, the pulse of current events and trends among our primary demographic, and the ability to apply an intersectional equity and inclusion lens to inform understanding of youth culture throughout the identity and political spectrums.

  • JazzHR maintains secure job board pages. Job boards will default to HTTPS. Additionally, if we were to terminate our contract with JazzHR our candidate data is deleted from JazzHR’s systems in accordance with JazzHR’s Terms of Service.
