Director of Software Engineering - B2B Payments
We are seeking a Director, Software Engineering who is passionate about growing and sustaining an innovative technology organization while fostering a culture of engineering and operational excellence. This position will be a part of our Commercial Technology group - which is a unique department within Capital One; it is situated within the Tech Line of Business but works closely with the Commercial Banking Business to build and maintain the digital platforms that our customers need. The team of about 700 associates works in a fast-paced, collaborative, iterative environment to deliver software. We have a fun, startup culture and we work hard to reuse, modernize, and simplify our Tech Stack while protecting our clients and building applications that work seamlessly together.
As Director, Software Engineering you will lead teams in streamlining core B2B banking platforms and payment systems. This requires a seasoned leader who can draw from hands-on software engineering experience with the ability to quickly learn and collaborate with Product, Design and Architecture to advance a well managed engineering focus for reliable software delivery while establishing a pragmatic vision and technical roadmap for abstracting core Payment and Banking capabilities. The Director, Software Engineering will bring experience in building secure, scalable software using an agile approach while creating an inclusive, collaborative culture that is focused on achieving results through incremental, iterative build out of pragmatic software solutions.
Key outcomes will be abstracting and externalizing core capabilities and services from third party payment and banking platforms to enable B2B Integrated Payables and Identity initiatives.
Lead, manage and grow multiple teams of product focused engineers and delivery leaders
Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of associates in your team.
Work with product owners to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios - Continuously improve software engineering practices
Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full-stack of development tools and technologies
Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions
Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal & external technology communities, and mentor other members of the engineering community
Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity
Work across to improve the velocity of your and other teams
Lead efforts to deploy new and existing applications into AWS environments
Break existing monolithic applications into micro service architectures and build new microservices
Manage vendor engagements for continuity, maintenance and security of 3rd party software
Work in a variety of application and technology areas, potentially including - Portal, Identity, Core Banking, Payables and Receivables.
At least 7 years of experience in software development
At least 5 years of experience in people management
Master's Degree in Computer Science or Master's Degree in Software Engineering
10+ years of experience in software development
5+ years of experience in Agile practices
