Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, LLP Director of Training & Professional Development in New York, New York

The Director of Training & Professional Development is responsible for the overall development and implementation of the firm’s professional training and development programs for attorneys and business services employees. They will develop and lead a world class comprehensive program that includes core training, continuing legal education, on the job learning, and coaching focused on core values and overall strategic business priorities.

  • Work with the Professional Development Committee, training partners in all offices and Practice Group Leaders on strategic development and delivery of general and practice specific learning and professional development programs for lawyers firm wide

  • Train and motivate partners and senior associates to create and deliver effective training, feedback and working application of training materials

  • Manage, mentor and train the global learning/training and development team

  • Oversee program design for firm wide training programs for new, mid and senior associates

  • Oversee practice specific curricula design

  • Work with the Executive Director and Professional Development Committee on M@H programs including the Corporate Counsel Program

  • Collaborate with other members of Legal Personnel/Talent team to develop, enhance and implement orientation programs for new lawyers

  • Collaborate with Directors/Managers of Recruiting to develop training programs for summer associates

  • Collaborate with the Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer and Chairs of the DEI and Women’s Initiative Committees to develop and implement diversity related programs

  • Oversee mentoring and career development programs

  • Coordinate with local office HR/LP managers and Practice Group Leaders on the administration of the junior and mid-level associate review process

  • Liaise with senior members of the of Legal Personnel team and practice group Talent Managers to implement career counseling and developmental career plans for associates

  • Identify and work with consultants who can assistant our associates and senior business services leaders with leadership and career development and coaching

  • Work with Chief Personnel Officer and key partners on programs for partners as needed

  • Oversee MCLE and other mandatory compliance for the firm including credit tracking

  • Work with Human Resources and senior business services leaders to develop skills and leadership training for business services personnel

  • Work with Human Resources to develop and enhance orientation for business services hires

  • Other responsibilities as they are assigned from time to time

    Salary Range $225K-$275K DOE

• Master’s Degree preferably in Education a plus; JD Degree a strong plus

• Coaching certificate a strong plus

• Minimum 10 years' related experience including responsibility for curriculum design and development required

• Minimum 5 years' experience in a management role

• Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently and set work objectives

• Strong interpersonal skills

• Superior verbal and written communication skills

• Excellent group facilitation skills

• Knowledge of industry related software and IT skills

• Experience sourcing and hiring consultants and vendors

• Willing to travel domestically and internationally
