The Role: Director, Product Development

This leadership role resides within the Global Business, Transaction and Product Management team. The role is responsible for engaging with leading market participants- Issuer, Intermediaries and Investors- towards understanding emerging forms of risk related products and services in development of new product opportunities. This can take the form of brand-new product opportunities as well as extensions to our existing product suite. Core elements of the role include market research/testing, financial impact to the firm and capturing the Voice of the Customer in development of product features. The candidate will regularly collaborate with regional business leads, internal partners as well as C-Suite executives across Ratings as well as in other organizations to develop new product ideas and/or support the suite of Ratings products.

The Team: You will be partnering with a very seasoned team which has a strong understanding of the capital market, with each members covering various product offering by S&P Global Ratings.

The Impact: As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for sharing latest market intel and insights with our clients externally. You will also be partnering closely with various internal stakeholders, including our sales and marketing team in understanding our product offering, as well as potential improvement which the market is seeking for.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads and manages the product development and management process for a new product or platform enhancement. Develops market inquiry/outreach plans and interprets results of product/platform opportunities. Develops relationships with existing customers including business heads or C-Suite executives with the goal of fostering continued use of SP Global products/platforms or services as well as identifying new products based on their needs.

  • Drives continuous engagement with Ratings Executive Management to develop and deliver new Ratings product initiatives as part of the New Product Lifecycle. Also, facilitates regular engagement with senior members of cross functional teams to form strategic product development ideation and delivery of solutions to clients.

  • Responsible for the go-to-market strategy of a group of products/platforms which includes Value to key persona analysis and client prioritization. Oversee win/loss analysis for the products to determine product modification or new GTM plan. Define and size market segments. Determine the optimum distribution strategy.

  • Conducts comparative analysis against competitors and develops strategic planning of product direction and features including financial projections. Conducts/leads due diligence on opportunities or partners. Interpret results. Positions the product/platform for all markets and all buyer types. Develops proactive strategies to respond to key performance indicators and market evolution forecasts. Acts as a project lead and/or specialized participant in negotiations.

  • Works with other divisions to understand and determine cross sell opportunities such that client messaging is cohesive and strategy aligns with organizational goals.

  • Enhance the reputation of S&P’s through ensuring professional proactive engagement with the market which will beneficially impact our external stakeholders’ view of the value we add to the global ratings market.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 7+ years of financial services experience and industry knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; advanced degree in relevant discipline a plus; relevant professional qualifications an advantage

  • Focus and background in Sustainable Finance as a primary source of experience as well as other forms of risk mgmt.- Cyber, Supply Chain, etc..

  • Acumen of S&P Global Ratings’ business, industry, and customers

  • Comfortable with travel

  • An understanding of S&P business and products. Has working knowledge of relevant analytical criteria including ratings and Ancillary and Other Services

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to connect and communicate with all (commercial and analytical) levels internally within an organization as well as externally at a senior level

  • Must be able to manage workload across multiple projects simultaneously

  • Must be able to work independently, be self-motivating, take the initiative and personal responsibility to, for example, create ongoing relationships with their stakeholder portfolio

  • Effective team worker who readily shares market intelligence and experience amongst the group

  • Influence and advise management on necessary changes and execute against the portfolio and set plan

  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and ability to adapt to global environment

  • Has strong knowledge of the industry and regional market, latest developments/issues

  • An understanding of S&P business and products

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to connect and communicate with all (commercial and analytical) levels internally within an organization as well as externally at a senior level.

  • Where required, has local language skills to facilitate more effective market interaction

The Location: New York, NY

Compensation/Benefits Information (US Applicants Only):

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $88,400 to $175,650. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.
