Summary:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Professional Education, the Director of Professional Education will have primary responsibility for operational oversight of the Professional Education Department, including program strategy and assuring that accreditation and compliance policies and procedures are effectively followed for all professional education activities provided by the department. These activities include onsite and live streaming programs, webinars and enduring materials. The Director will serve as in-house expert on all Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) criteria and requirements and will also oversee all accreditations related to MD’s, rehab professionals, physician assistants, nurses, etc. The Director will supervise three Specialists, and work collaboratively with HSS activity directors, internal and external faculty and others who may be involved in professional education programs.

Specific Duties:

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Operational Oversight and Program Development

  • Ensure smooth operations of Professional Education Department by overseeing work of Specialists on the development and implementation of all professional education programs including onsite and live streaming programs, webinars and enduring materials, all of which may offer credits for physicians, rehab professionals, physician assistants, nurses, etc.

  • Working in partnership with Assistant Vice President, implement program development strategies for all activities provided by the Department in collaboration with internal and external partners.

  • Create Joint Providership Letters of Agreement, MOU’s, program development proposals, etc.

  • Oversee the management and resolution process for conflicts of interest among activity Planning Committee members, HSS faculty and external faculty via the disclosure process, based on institutional polices for COI management.

  • Ensure program budgets are financially sound and adhere to HSS and accrediting body policies and requirements.

  • Maintain program dashboard and provide analysis of achieving impact of education programs.

  • Working with Assistant Vice President, determine opportunities to integrate outcomes measures to further enhance Professional Education Program’s impact on knowledge, competence and or performance, to support safe, quality patient care and optimum patient outcomes in the field of musculoskeletal medicine.

Accreditation and Compliance

  • Manage ACCME data and reports for all CME programs to ensure continued accreditation with goal towards accreditation with commendation.

  • Manage ACCME required activity documentation and other materials for all Professional Education Department activities assuring compliance with all ACCME requirements.

  • Working closely with the CME Committee Chair to manage the work of the CME Committee including agendas, minutes and communication to program chairs and committee members.

Leadership

  • Stay current on industry trends and new approaches in the continuing medical education field, including new policies and updates from the ACCME, and inform team of new practices and requirements.

  • Work collaboratively and provide necessary information about ACCME criteria and requirements to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Develop an extensive understanding of the HSS enterprise, the strategy and mission, the Education Institute’s and Department’s strategy, mission and strategic priorities, as articulated by senior leadership.

  • Establish excellent working relationships with and earn the confidence and respect of medical and executive leadership, external partners, as well as other HSS colleagues.

  • As active member of Education Institute Leadership Team, collaborate with colleagues throughout EI and HSS as a leader, partner, and team member, providing guidance as required.

  • Help drive innovation within the Department.

Desired Education and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required. An advanced degree in business administration or strategic communications is preferred.

  • A seasoned professional (5 years+, with a minimum of 3 years as a manager) with experience in healthcare/hospital, non-profit organizations, and/or medical/professional education is highly desirable.

  • Experience in managing compliance with external accrediting bodies, audits, etc. highly desirable.

  • Experience and comfort interfacing with senior-level executives and high-profile individuals, particularly in a hospital or academic setting.

  • Possesses excellent analytical and process skills. Capable of synthesizing information, making sound recommendations, and communicating conclusions concisely and clearly.

  • Experience resolving issues through innovative problem solving and solution development. Possesses a continuous-improvement mind-set.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; good listening capability; can structure and lead business projects/meetings and achieve results.

  • Well organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects on tight deadlines. Superior at multi-tasking, with a high sense of purpose and urgency.
