New York Life Real Estate Investors (“NYL REI”) is the real estate investment management division of NYL Investors. NYL REI manages a portfolio in excess of $60 Billion which includes real estate debt, real estate equities and real estate fixed income securities. REI consists of more than 170 dedicated team members across 5 offices. The portfolio includes investments held in New York Life’s general account as well as third party investors which range from separate accounts, programmatic joint ventures, and commingled funds (both closed and open-end). Investment programs cover all ends of the risk spectrum, on both the equity and debt sides of the business. We are seeking a business development professional whose function would be multi-faceted and include capital formation, consultant relations, new product development, and client relations across NYL REI’s investment platforms.
The candidate should be a seasoned professional with a broad range of institutional investor relations and capital fundraising and/or product development experience complemented by a solid foundation in commercial real estate investment fundamentals. The individual should have active, high quality relationships with both investment consultants and institutional investors. Relationships with Taft-Hartley-specific consultants and investors would be a plus.
Maintain current relationships and cultivate new relationships with institutional investors to grow the third-party business.
Interact and collaborate with NYL Investments generalist salesforce in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East to help drive distribution.
Develop and maintain consultant relationships, as directed by the Head of Business Development, to build the knowledge and reputation of the Firm to ultimately increase and maintain client assets across all of the Firm's strategies.
Consultant coverage will include both Tier 1 and Tier 2 consultants with an additional focus on Taft-Hartley plan consultants.
Coverage of the various consulting firms will include individuals in research, field, senior management and any other position that may help influence their firm’s views of NYL REI.
Provide product development thought leadership and support for new initiatives.
Interact and collaborate with all teams within NYL REI including portfolio management, acquisitions, asset management and legal, to help drive investment opportunities that can generate attractive, long-term returns for institutional investors including public. private and foreign pension funds, Taft-Hartley funds, insurance companies, banks, sovereign wealth funds, endowments, and foundations.
Drive relationships with placement agents.
Oversee investor RFPs.
Develop and maintain knowledge of all of the firm’s products and strategies with an emphasis on the Madison Core Property Fund.
Provide support with quarterly investor reports.
Support with client requests and portfolio update meetings.
College degree from an accredited university
MBA or Masters Degree in Real Estate or related discipline is preferred.
8+ years of in-depth experience in consultant relations, capital fundraising, commercial real estate investments and/or product development.
Relationships with primary consultants that service institutional investors investing in commercial real estate
A track record of success in winning new business and forging relationships with consultants, investors, and/or real estate managers
Strong technical real estate skills including operating fundamentals and capital markets
Sound ability to present and discuss investment matters and strategies without portfolio manager support
Highest level of integrity
Highly professional with strong interpersonal skills
Strategic, creative and analytically minded
Able to work effectively with others and be a team player
Flexibility in a changing environment
Comfort in presenting to internal executive team and external investors
