Diversity Communications Manager

The Diversity Communications Manager is recognized in the firm as a strategic adviser in support of visibility objectives and profile raising in the promotion and the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion priorities, initiatives, and programs across the firm. The manager will report to the Chief Diversity Officer (CDO). The candidate will work with the CDO, Regional Diversity Directors, the Firm's Marketing and HR Departments, and the Chairs of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee and Committee on Retention and Promotion of Women to regularly coordinate and execute Firmwide DE&I-related communication campaigns.
The manager is an experienced project manager who recommends and executes innovative communication strategies that enhance the firm's profile and promotes its DE&I priorities, initiatives and programs across all levels, including high-level coordination of Sidley's internal and external communications relating to the Firm's diversity, equity and inclusion priorities, initiatives, and programs.
Duties and Responsibilities

Develop firmwide communications strategy to raise internal and external awareness of and engagement with the Firm's diversity, equity and inclusion priorities, initiatives, and programs.
Manage on an ongoing basis a quarterly internal firmwide newsletter and an annual Year In Review concerning the Firm's diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives so as to keep all parts of the Firm informed of important DE&I-related efforts, events, programs and achievements.
In conjunction with the Chief Diversity Officer, Human Resources, Marketing, and Strategic Planning, Analytics, and Accounting Departments, draft, edit and manage the Firm's narrative responses to client, bar organization and other surveys, and other inquiries involving diversity, equity and inclusion.
Draft and assist in the completion of rankings/awards nominations.
Serve as the point of contact between the Diversity & Inclusion Department and Marketing Department to better leverage firm resources to promote diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, including frequent communication with the Firm's Director of US Marketing Programs to best position the Firm's diversity, equity and inclusion efforts to our audience.
Liaise with the Firm's Digital Communications team to provide clear objectives and timely deliverables for internal and external communications and DE&I- related promotion.
Manage and continually update the narrative, photographic, and video content of the Firm's web pages and intranet pages relating to its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, including, for example, the upcoming Faces of Leadership In Action initiative, DE&I- related client programming, Sidley's Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship and the Sidley Prelaw Scholars Program.
Draft and update the content and manage the design/production process of DE&I- related publications, such as Our Commitment to Diversity, DE&I Highlights and Frequently Asked Questions documents, the Firm's diversity-related recruiting materials, Sidley Prelaw Scholars brochure, 1L Summer Diversity Mentoring Program materials, and new electronic and paper materials.
Curates, in conjunction with Regional Diversity Directors, a diversity calendar for programming and visibility.
Create a diversity, equity and inclusion media list and develop pitches and content for relevant stories and op-eds, in conjunction with the Firm's Marketing PR team.
Develop ongoing communication strategies to support DE&I- related posts for the Firm's outward-facing social media accounts and manage the content of internal social networks for lawyers.
Develop a plan and a process to highlight, internally and externally, the accomplishments of individual lawyers of diverse background and Sidley women lawyers.
Respond to marketing requests, in conjunction with the Chief Diversity Officer, for DE&I- related information for RFPs, pitches and presentations and periodically update DE&I- related data relevant for client pitch materials and other go-to-market collateral.
Regularly research social science concerning various aspects of diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession and similar professions, in order to support the work of the Diversity & Inclusion Department, the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, and Committee on Retention and Promotion of Women.
Research and collect historic and current information regarding Sidley's DE&I- related efforts, "firsts," programs and achievements.
Prepare and distribute internal communications regarding Sidley DE&I priorities, initiatives, and programs, including ongoing maintenance of Diversity & Inclusion homepage on @Sidley (internal portal/dashboard) and diversity program calendars, as appropriate.
Liaise with external organizations to draft and coordinate the design process for ads and other DE&I- related collateral materials.
With the Chief Diversity Officer, develop talking points and other materials to support DE&I- related client meetings and partner speeches.
Support work of other Diversity & Inclusion Department staff, as needed, including staffing internal and external diversity programs.

Education and/or Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of prior work experience in public relations, journalism, communications, social science research or other related experience
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Skilled program marketing and communications strategist; a dynamic and organized project manager with excellent verbal and written communication skills
A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and cross-cultural education
Strong familiarity with standard office technology applications such as Microsoft Office Suite required, with particular emphasis on Outlook, PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel. Relevant CRM and other database experience a plus
Strong knowledge of social media and website platforms
Law firm, Corporate Public Relations or Communications experience
Prior work experience where collaboration on projects was required
