Amazon is seeking a creative editor and writer to ideate, assign, edit, and produce content for AboutAmazon.com. This person will be expected to not only edit content, but also research and write for the site. There will also be travel opportunities throughout the year to cover live Amazon events and tour and capture content at our many unique facilities. The role sits on the Owned Content & Channels team within Amazon’s Global Communications and Community Impact org.

As we seek to turn About Amazon into the first and most trusted source of information about Amazon, we are looking for an editor who can create compelling, data-driven stories about the company for an external digital audience.

The candidate will bring fresh, innovative content ideas and solutions as well as executional excellence and experience building content strategies for our website, About Amazon. The candidate should have a background in digital media or journalism, a strong knowledge of SEO, and be able to optimize and craft stories for search and digital audiences. They would be responsible for creating engaging, informative, and highly visual feature stories than span Amazon’s businesses—from tours of our fulfillment centers and robotics facilities to deep dives on our innovations in AI. They would also partner closely with PR counterparts and other stakeholders to understand the unique objectives, audiences, and messages for each piece of content and use those inputs to develop content strategies and expand the reach of these stories. A strong understanding of data is also critical to creating successful content for our site.

Although this would be an individual contributor role, this person would be expected to manage and edit the work of freelance writers. The successful candidate will have experience managing a team of writers and/or freelancers; a proven track record of developing and delivering compelling stories and campaigns with measurable results; and a strong understanding of SEO and the current digital content landscape.

This position can be located in Seattle, WA; Arlington, VA (Washington, D.C.); or New York, NY.

Key job responsibilities

Strategy: Work with our team’s editor in chief, senior editors, and senior photo editor to develop and implement the owned channel content strategy for feature stories in line with global PR and business goals.

Campaign & Project Management: Oversee campaigns tied to key storytelling moments and collaborate with channel owners for AboutAmazon.com, select Amazon social media accounts, the Amazon News email newsletter, internal and Employer Brand channels, and more.

Partnership: Act as a content thought partner to PR teams, providing counsel and guidance throughout all stages of content planning, execution, and analysis.

Activation: Build out and maintain a features content calendar and ensure the timely and high-quality delivery of assets and content outputs, with a focus on website executions on AboutAmazon.com and/or special landing pages.

Measurement & Evaluation: Working with channel owners, set content goals, and implement cohesive measurement plans to understand program success. Make real-time program adjustments based on results.

Experimenting & Scaling: Develop best practices and create playbooks and toolkits to make our global work more consistent and efficient.

About the team

This role is part of the Owned Content & Channels team within Global Communications and Community Impact, which oversees AboutAmazon.com websites, including content and SEO, as well as the Amazon News email newsletter.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of communications, marketing, or journalism experience

  • 5+ years of digital content or content marketing experience

  • Experience working with data and analytics to make strategic content decisions

  • A strong understanding of SEO; experience using SEO tools such as SEMrush, Google Trends, etc., and an understanding of how to use that to strategically create search-driven content

  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in digital media or digital journalism

  • Experience developing, editing, and planning web and/or blog content, including using CMS tools

  • Proven track record of strategic planning and delivery on significant digital content campaigns tied to measurable business, brand, and/or communications goals

  • Experience conducting keyword research and trend analyses with Google Trends and other tools to monitor seasonal and real-time trends

  • A strong understanding of Google’s algorithm and the key factors that can impact visibility in organic search results and Top News results

  • Familiarity with, or willingness to experiment with, technology tools (e.g. GenAI) for content creation

  • Innovates and creates new, attention-grabbing, and effective content ideas

  • Has worked globally and developed scalable best practices

  • Ability to exercise high judgment in narrow time-frames

  • Self-driven, entrepreneurial spirit—enjoys taking responsibility and making things happen

  • Knowledgeable about digital communications and content trends and able to apply these insights to their work

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $72,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $155,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
