Editorial Assistant, Books Editorial services, Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS)

We are looking for an Editorial Assistant to provide operational support to our publishing editors' books portfolios.The Editorial Assistant provides a vital role in supporting the Editorial team by ensuring that the HSS list is managed efficiently, that our authors receive a high quality of publication service, and that our books are published to the highest standards. As well as providing core support to the Editorial team, the role involves building excellent working relationships and day-to-day administration.This will be a permanent position based out of our New York office.
Managing editorial processes including the peer review process for new proposals
Preparing final typescripts for handover to production
Database and systems management
A wide range of administrative tasks including processing payments and send book copies to authors
Liaising with authors as well as with colleagues in Production and Editorial
Experience, skills and qualifications
Experience from a professional activity in editorial/publishing or university degree, preferably in a relevant field of study
Have excellent team-working skills to deal with people within the company and externally at all levels
Be a diplomatic and assertive individual who is able to work with demanding stake-holders
Be able to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and be able to work on their own initiative
Be resourceful and proactive in dealing with problems and queries
Be able to demonstrate good publishing business awareness and the ability to learn quickly
Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be numerate and IT systems-literate (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with a sharp eye for detail
Preferably have experience working in academic publishing in an entry-level editorial role
Fluencyin English, both orally and written
