As the world’s largest buyer of goods and services in the world, (>$1T/year) the US government provides excellent market opportunities for our clients across all sectors. Whether the challenge is a contract, grant or cooperative agreement, the rules and regulations in the federal marketplace require the type of experience our team must support companies. Our GCS team helps clients tap into and expand within this market by bringing experience and knowledge with interpreting applying the various government statutes and regulations and sharing our strategic insight of how these requirements impact companies’ ability to successfully compete within the US Government.

The opportunity

Our GCS professionals have helped companies deal with the challenges and requirements that are part of doing business with the government. As an Experienced Staff in GCS, you’ll help clients navigate the strict rules and regulations of government contracts in order to business objectives and mitigate the reputational and financial risk of noncompliance. You’ll help clients forge financial, legal and management relationships with some of the largest governmental agencies in the world, including the Department of Defense, NASA, General Services Administration, Department of Energy, and many more. The position provides the opportunity to learn new high-in-demand skills, work with an unprecedented list of clients and grow within EY.

Your key responsibilities

Because of the complexities of government contracting, no two projects will be the same. You’ll learn and use your skills across the entire spectrum of contract services including – government cost accounting (allowable costs, Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), indirect rates), complex regulations (FAR/DFARS) , Business Systems (government mandated controls) and pricing to name a few. You’ll be advising clients on strategies that help maximize revenue while reducing risk of contract noncompliance. As a GCS Staff, you’ll also assist in providing financial analyses to improve your clients contract accounting and profitability .

Skills and attributes for success

  • Work on multiple GCS projects, performing a variety of duties in government contracts and grants

  • Assist in performing assessments and developing compliance programs using Cost Accounting Standards, Federal Acquisition Regulations and Office of Management and Budget Management circulars

  • Develop an understanding of the firm’s service offerings, markets and sectors

  • Constantly seek feedback from more experienced team members

  • Maintain a strong focus on the client and be responsive to their requests

To qualify for the role you must have

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics accompanied by approximately 1 year of related work experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • A dedication to teamwork and leadership

Ideally you’ll also have

  • A Certified Public Accountant license
