The Riverside Church Freedom School Site Coordinator in New York, New York

Job Summary:

The Site Coordinator should have strong leadership skills with empathy for children and their parents. He or she should be familiar with the culture and dynamics of the community, committed to the goals of the literacy-based summer enrichment program , and able to work collaboratively with all program constituents.

Primary Duties

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the site and ensure Servant Leaders have necessary materials and supplies for the classroom and students.

  • Ensure proper implementation of the curriculum and managing daily site activities.

  • Provide guidance, support, encouragement, and constructive feedback to Servant Leaders.

  • Maintain team spirit among site staff and conduct debrief sessions at the end of each day. During the debrief sessions, provide technical assistance and feedback to the Servant Leaders on all aspects of their work.

  • Work with the Program Manager to keep the lines of communication open between parents and staff.

  • Serve in a supervisory capacity and the primary contact for the Servant Leaders.

  • Attend all required Trainings dates March 24-March 27 and national training June 2-June 5.

  • Assist with putting together the scholar’s welcome bag.

  • Observe Servant Leaders facilitate the curriculum lessons and provide constructive feedback.

  • Ensure the curriculum is being implemented with fidelity.

  • Securing and organizing the appropriate materials for SLI.

  • Serve as leaders of afternoon activities and other special events. Devise afternoon enrichment activities (arts, yoga, dance, sports, STEM, etc.) and serve as a leader of these activities and other special events.

  • Maintain health and safety standards, and report any concerns to the Executive Director.

  • Input accurate attendance records.

  • At least 18 years old, enrolled in college and completed at least 1 year of undergraduate studies or recent college graduate who has previously served as a Freedom School Servant Leader Intern (SLI).

  • Ability to work in the summer heat, lift at least 50 pounds and actively participate in all activities.

  • Valid ID and reliable transportation.

  • Satisfactory drug test and satisfactory background check for criminal and child protective findings.

  • Spanish language proficiency a plus, but not required.


  • Shall be accountable to the Executive Director and the Program Manager.

    Hours & Compensation

  • Summer position: program start dates July 6-August 12.

  • Local orientation for Site Coordinator is June 27-July 1.
