A career in Office of General Counsel, within Internal Firm Services, will provide you with the opportunity to be a part of the Firm’s legal department by providing dedicated legal support in the areas of litigation, counselling, and corporate, commercial, and employment law. You’ll play an important part in all aspects of regulatory proceedings involving the Firm and its personnel by supporting on regulatory issues, advising the Firm on matters relating to its operations, supporting the Firm’s client contracting function, and advising on matters related to employees.

As part of our team, you’ll help with researching background information related to legal issues and prepare legal documents. You’ll focus on drafting contracts or legal agreements, retaining files of prepared legal documents, and coordinating requests between internal and external counsel.

The Opportunity

As part of the Office of General Counsel team you provide legal advice to client-facing leaders, risk managers, and others in the Advisory and Tax & Legal practices. As a Director you set the strategic direction and lead business development efforts, making impactful decisions and overseeing multiple projects while maintaining executive-level client relations. You offer real-time advice about professional issues, securities laws, regulatory and legislative matters, and policies and procedures that enhance quality and manage risk, supporting business initiatives and addressing legal and regulatory issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal guidance to client-facing leaders and risk managers

  • Lead business development initiatives and set strategic direction

  • Oversee multiple projects and maintain key client relationships

  • Offer real-time advice on professional, securities, and regulatory matters

  • Support business initiatives by addressing legal and regulatory issues

  • Enhance quality and manage risk through policy and procedure advice

  • Collaborate with Advisory and Tax & Legal practices to solve complex issues

  • Uphold the firm's code of ethics and business conduct

What You Must Have

  • Juris Doctorate

  • 8 years of experience

What Sets You Apart

  • Leveraging experience advising on international matters and dealing with colleagues in foreign jurisdictions

  • Demonstrating experience in professional liability defense and regulatory enforcement defense

  • Using standard professional and legal technologies

  • Providing legal advice as a specialist in investigations and/or regulatory enforcement

  • Building contacts and relationships throughout the PwC network

  • Handling complex legal issues involving significant risk and requiring the application of seasoned judgment as well as providing sound legal advice regarding applicable legal and professional standards, often on a time-sensitive basis

  • Instructing and managing outside counsel to obtain favorable outcome and contain costs

  • Negotiating with respect to legal issues

  • Identifying when support is needed from other professionals within the organization or from outside counsel

  • Managing multiple cases/matters/projects and/or teams of internal and/or external resources

  • Building consensus, even for difficult or unpopular courses of action, necessitated by legal or regulatory requirements

  • Advising and interacting at the senior leadership level

  • Collaborating and fostering teamwork, particularly when gathering input and requirements for global agreements

  • Managing people for success by assigning and overseeing work, providing professional development guidance

  • Preparing presentations and communications for leadership stakeholders on various matters

  • Supporting and providing legal advice on the digital strategy including use of technology tools in audit

The salary range for this position is: $122,500 - $495,500, plus individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. For roles that are based in Maryland, this is the listed salary range for this position. Actual compensation within the range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications and location, and applicable employment laws.
