Educational Alliance brings together and partners with diverse communities in Lower Manhattan, offering individuals and families high-quality, multi-generational programs and services that enhance their well-being and socioeconomic opportunities. We are a place where everyone is welcome and where progress is powered one relationship at a time. We provide high-quality, transformational services and programs to all New Yorkers through our network of community centers on Manhattan’s Lower East Side and East Village. As we have for 130 years, we offer best-in-class programming–now across 15 sites—focusing on a mix of education, health and wellness, arts and culture, and civic engagement.
JOB PURPOSE
Students attending Educational Alliance’s K-8 Community Schools represent the most vulnerable families in the Lower East Side catchment area. On average: 90% of our students live below the federal poverty threshold; 65% are Latinx; 30% are Black; 33% are Students with Disabilities; and 10% are learning English as a Second Language. Poverty and inequities in public education are the greatest threat to children’s well-being. Educational Alliance’s Community Schools and Youth Development (CSYD) department collaborates with local public schools to deliver comprehensive child and family services during the school day, afterschool, Saturdays, and summer months. For students, CSYD closes the experience gap by providing access to high-quality positive youth development programs that challenge and nourish the mind and body; reinforce social, emotional, physical, and cognitive skills; and encourage a college bound and career readiness – to influence outcomes and provide hope. Through a culturally resonant student-centered approach, CSYD adds value to the local school communities for students, parents, and program staff. Group Mentors provide a direct connection to students and families through robust programming. They facilitate student-centered, social justice youth development activities that recognize the funds of knowledge students possess.
