Police Athletic League Human Resources Generalist in New York, New York

The Police Athletic League (PAL) is the largest independent youth organization in New York City that provides educational and recreational activities for children and young adults. PAL Inc. and The New York City Police Department work in partnership to provide communities with summer and after-school recreational and educational activities.

We're looking for a Human Resources Generalist, with a primary focus on recruitment and training coordination, the HR Generalist will support the Human Resources and Payroll Departments in servicing Police Athletic League personnel with all HR and Payroll related needs throughout the course of their employment.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • The HR Generalist will research and become familiar with the different levels of staff and their functions at the Police Athletic League. He/she will work with the various departments within the agency in assisting with all life cycle recruitment and onboarding.

  • Research and review employee training needs of the Agency and report back to management.

  • The HR Generalist will seek, screen and interview candidates based on a hiring department’s specific needs.

  • Provide employee orientations and coordinate training as needed for PAL personnel.

  • Prepare and maintain an applicant tracking system and maintain a pool of resumes for all PAL positions.

  • Assist the HR and Payroll Departments during staff audits.

  • Provide assistance and counsel all levels of staff as needed.

  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing data.

  • Ensure that the agency is compliant with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions related to employment.

  • Complete and work on special projects as assigned by the Chief of Administration & HR.

Education & Experience

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in an HR environment.

Skills & Knowledge/General Comments

  • Strong all life cycle recruitment and onboarding skills.

  • Non-Profit Youth Services experience is a plus.

  • ADP Workforce Now and JazzHR Proficiency.

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Knowledge of the Payroll process.

  • Knowledge of ShareFile/Right Signature.

  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
