FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The SEEK Department at City College is a state-funded educational opportunity program for students who meet specific academic and income criteria. SEEK at CCNY was established in 1965 as a pre-baccalaureate program and served as a model program for other SEEK, EOP, and HEOP programs. The mission of the SEEK program is to provide access to higher education for capable students who might not be able to attend college otherwise due to their educational or financial circumstances. Our program efforts are rooted in a social justice framework and are intended to increase the level of education, social capital, and workforce expertise of our students.

We are looking for two individuals experienced in counseling for faculty positions at the Assistant Professor (tenure-track) rank. The successful candidates must be able to provide a range of student support services, including personal, academic, and career counseling to a multiculturally diverse population of students. We are looking for individuals who want to collaborate with a dynamic staff within a team-oriented and student-centered approach. The individuals will be expected to work 30 hours per week.

Other duties of the counselors include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage, through individual and group counseling and related activities, the support service needs of a caseload of approximately 150 students.

  • Design, plan, and teach the departmental sections of our college readiness course, New Student Seminar, during the fall and spring semesters.

  • Assist with program planning, advising and registration using various technology platforms (e.g., Schedule Builder, Degree Works, EAB Navigate).

  • Monitor students' academic performance and progress.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student contacts.

  • Contribute to a myriad of initiatives focused on academic intervention, counseling support, psychoeducation, and program marketing.

  • Facilitate information sessions for new students, teach multiple sessions of our summer Transitions workshops and other pre-freshman activities such as CUNY- wide Welcome Day.

  • Develop and implement innovative program strategies to improve retention and graduation rates of SEEK students (e.g. academic skills and psychoeducational workshops, mentoring, town halls, etc.).

  • Collaborate with other student services offices on and off campus to deliver programs that will enhance the educational experience of SEEK students (e.g. career services, study abroad, scholarships, urban males, writing center, etc.).

  • Engage in scholarly research and publication.

  • Serve on departmental, college, and CUNY-wide committees.

  • Assume other related duties assigned by the SEEK Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

Instructor :

  • A Master's degreein an appropriate discipline for personal or psychological counseling

  • Applicants who have completed all requirements for the doctorate except for dissertation may be considered for hire at the Instructor level

Assistant Professor :

A Doctoral degree in Psychology to include Ph.D. and Psy.D. programs

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

License in Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, or Social Work is highly preferred.

Other preferred qualifications include:

• 3+ years of experience in advising, mentoring, or counseling service.

• Interest in developing and implementing pre-freshman summer programming

• Individuals with experience and expertise working with males of color, transfer students, and vulnerable populations such as students on academic probation are highly encouraged to apply.

COMPENSATION

$64,649 to $70,238, commensurate with education and experience
