JOB DESCRIPTION Interim Director of Student Support & Learning (One Year)Start Date: August 19, 2025 Salary: 110K-140K Schedule: This role is a 10-month position, with a start in late August, an end in late June, and a one-day leadership retreat in the summer. This role requires attendance on some overnight trips as well as a number of early morning, evening and weekend events across the school year. About the Position The Interim Director of Student Support & Learning (one year with potential of extending) serves as an essential organizational leader in designing the school's approach to serving the school's diversity of learners. This role reports to the Dean of Children's Programs/Head of School and is a 10-month position. The Director is a member of the Children's Programs leadership team and collaborates with the divisional leaders to guide and implement a program and goals that support age-meaningful curriculum development and further build faculty members' content knowledge, instructional practices, and home-school relationships, all in support of each child's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. A strategic thought leader with strong relational skills and proven expertise in student learning diversity, the Director supervises the Learning Specialists and Mental Health team members across the school as well as the Literacy Specialist. Within that scope of work, the Director will hold the responsibility for overseeing the school's network of related services providers and NYCDOE partners while envisioning a stronger support system for the future. The Director will also be the point-person for liaising with the school-wide Student Support Team (SST) and co-developing the biweekly meeting agendas.RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Leadership & Supervision Supervising the Mental Health team members to ensure staff and families are best situated to support healthy student development. Supervising the Learning and Literacy Specialists to strengthen coaching, partnership, and faculty development for classroom differentiated instruction and intervention and assessment systems. Participating in or leading regular meetings with a range of staff and families. Meetings include but are not limited to weekly School Leadership team meetings, mental health team meetings, student support team meetings, Children's Programs leadership team meetings, parent meetings, and supervision meetings. Participating in the admissions process as needed, including admissions committees and open house presentations. Performing other duties as assigned. Student Support & Learning Partnering with divisional leaders and faculty in documenting and augmenting key areas of curriculum for increased coherence within and across grade levels, including leading schoolwide reviews of literacy, math and social studies. Providing professional learning opportunities and supports to faculty regarding deepened content and differentiation. Refining a system of mental health supports and support in the use of shared restorative justice behavioral frameworks. Collaborating on and leading some student reading groups. Organizing the work of learning specialists to support the school's partnership with the NYC Public Schools (formerly NYCDOE) regarding related services providers. Partnering with Lower and Upper School leaders, Math, Literacy, and Learning Specialists, Mental Health Team members, and Classroom Teachers to review and manage the internal Kid Meeting structure so that they ensure each group's and child's needs are known and being addressed. Partnering with Lower and Upper School leaders in meeting with parents and teachers to discuss interventions and supports for students requiring deeper learning supports. Partnering with Lower and Upper School leaders, Math, Literacy, and Learning Specialists, and Classroom Teachers to continuously refine parent communication in the form of parent-teacher conferences and reports. Collaborating with Math, Literacy, and Learning Specialists, and Classroom Teachers to plan and implement parent education, such as Math and Literacy Engagements. Collaborating with the Lower and Upper School divisional leaders to create seamless transitions for students and families across ages and divisions, especially for students with diverse learning needs and specialized supports. Further embedding research-based academic practices for children across the school, using authentic assessment data to achieve greater equity of learning outcomes Being a consistent presence in classrooms to support classroom teachers and specialists, provide coaching and modeling effective instruction. Engaging and supporting the parent affinity group, Learning Diversity Resource Group, in collaboration with the school leadership team. Performing other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have: A Masters degree in Education At least five years of teaching experience at the preK-8 level Multiple years of experience as a learning specialist and/or special educator or equivalent experience Prior leadership experience, if not on at the school leadership level, than in leading a team of faculty Some experience as a supervisor preferred Experience supporting diverse learners and their families Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to social justice and equity, including an ability to reflect on and articulate one's racial identity development Deep knowledge of, commitment to, and experience with progressive education and schooling A successful track record supporting adult growth and development, preferably in the role of team leader, instructional coach, assistant principal/head, or the equivalent Broad and deep experience in curriculum development Ability to resolve conflict in a productive way Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills Warmth, humor, flexibility, and optimismApply here: https://www.aplitrak.com/?adid=YmJnZW5lcmljLjcwNTMxLjEwNDE3QGJhbmtzdHJlZXRjb21wLmFwbGl0cmFrLmNvbQ
Minimum Salary: 15 Maximum Salary: 16 Salary Unit: Hourly
