We are seeking highly motivated individuals to join the Brookfield Properties U.S. Office Division in New York, New York as Summer Interns. Our intern program lasts 10 weeks and includes many exciting training and development opportunities.

The ESG Intern is a key position on the ESG team primarily responsible for evaluating Brookfield Properties’ New York City Office portfolio’s environmental, social, and governance performance and analyzing the feasibility of new projects both at the portfolio and asset level. They will perform analytical and reporting tasks to evaluate ongoing ESG performance for our entire portfolio and assist with updating our annual ESG business plan.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Gathering, analyzing, and reporting on Environmental initiatives surrounding energy use, water use, waste management, carbon emissions, renewable energy, and other environmental programs

  • Gathering, analyzing, and reporting on Social initiatives surrounding community engagement, tenant engagement, and employee engagement programs

  • Gathering, analyzing, and reporting on Governance initiatives surrounding reporting and transparency, policy, safety, and cybersecurity programs

  • Assist in evaluating ESG projects and solutions for properties and the general New York City office portfolio

  • Assist in quantifying the value of ESG initiatives to stakeholders

  • Managing day-to-day communication with project teams

  • Participate in standardizing company ESG practices and green standard operating procedures

  • Communicating with property managers operating our assets to ensure compliance and consistency throughout our portfolio

  • Bring creative solutions to improve existing workflows, processes, and communication during acquisition, operations, and disposition of our assets

  • Evaluating and monitoring project progress of new and existing initiatives

Your Qualifications:

  • Rising senior working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in related major (Environmental Science, Business, Real Estate, or other STEM related field), with a minimum GPA of 3.0

  • Superior analytical skills with proficiency in Excel and all Microsoft office applications

  • Familiarity with Energy Star, LEED and WELL preferred

  • Ability to work in New York in a full-time capacity for 10 weeks, beginning in June of 2024.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office specifically Excel, Word and PowerPoint

  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving ability

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to collaborate at all levels, working with team members, senior management, and business owners to move projects forward

  • Self-motivated and proactive, both with respect to managing workload and own professional development

  • Ability to handle large volume of work; good organizational skills and ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines

  • Candidate should be enthusiastic and motivated to succeed in a team environment

  • Must demonstrate time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, deliver timely and accurate work products with a customer service focus, and respond with a sense of urgency as required.

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary Type: Non-exempt

Pay Frequency: Bi-weekly

Annual Base Salary Range: $25/Hour
