Title: International Tax Accountant Senior Associate

The opportunity

EY is seeking a tax professional in the internal tax department of EY. You will focus on accomplishing the international tax compliance and related tasks for the EY member and global firms as well as the international information reporting. You will execute the tax calendar to ensure that all tax and informational returns referenced above are completed by the established due date. In addition, you will conduct the independent preparation of some of the less complex returns as well as working within a larger team to prepare the more complex returns. Beyond tax work, you will also perform accounting activities such as preparing financial statements and support of audits.

Your key responsibilities

  • Responsible for preparing international tax returns, including 1120-F, 5471, 8833, 8858, 8865, and other miscellaneous tax returns in accordance with firm policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.

  • Performs foreign tax credit, branch tax, and section 163(j) calculations for inclusion in the appropriate tax returns and for use in tax planning.

  • Prepares financial statements for some of the smaller entities and entities with US branch operations.

  • Reviews Forms W-8 and assists with sourcing and withholding questions.

  • Performs tax research and prepares responses to inquiries from various tax jurisdictions and internal EY business leaders.

  • Works to prepare audit responses to minimize exposure by providing supporting documentation.

  • Research tax laws, statutes/regulations, etc. to achieve firm compliance.

  • Identifies processing, tax and/or accounting issues, and escalates accordingly.

  • Assist with special projects and tax audits, as requested.

Skills and attributes for success

This role requires critical thinking and accuracy for accurate filing of returns. You will identify and determine the taxation of different transactions undertaken by EY, member, and global firms. You will apply sound business judgement and healthy skepticism by analyzing financial and transactional data. This role focuses heavily on identifying issues that may create potential tax exposure and/or risk to the Firm, as well as identifying solutions to those problems.

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Bachelor's degree, with emphasis in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.

  • Approximately 3+ years of international tax compliance experience.

  • Knowledge of tax compliance and basic accounting principles.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to comprehend firm communications, announcements, other change management initiatives, etc. and correlate these changes to the core tax procedures and develop recommendations to incorporate these changes and/or impacts into the tax policies and/or procedures, as appropriate.

  • Positive attitude and approach and willingness to accept new challenges.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Advanced degree in Tax or Law highly desirable.

  • CPA or other relevant certification.
