Police Athletic League Jr. Accountant in New York, New York

The Police Athletic League (PAL) is the largest independent youth organization in New York City that provides educational and recreational activities for children and young adults. PAL Inc. and The New York City Police Department work in partnership to provide communities with summer and after-school recreational and educational activities.

We are looking for a Junior Accountant who will be responsible for claims, funding for government contracts, monthly financial reports, and closings. This person will report directly to the Senior Accountant Manager.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists and prepares monthly financial reports and various related statements that reflect the agency?s financial condition.

  • Prepares monthly government reports and reconciles related activity to the general ledger.

  • Monitors expenditures to assure that the government programs remain within the budget.

  • Maintains records of contracts.

  • Generate monthly closing and adjusting journal entries.

  • Ensures records for external audits are prepared.

  • Performs balance sheet analysis and other duties as assigned or requested.

Skills/Knowledge Required

  • Associates degree in accounting with a minimum two years? work experience.

  • Bachelor degree in accounting preferred.

  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in accounting software.

  • Knowledge of Finance Edge and HHS Accelerator is a plus.

  • Proficient in Excel and others Microsoft Office applications.

  • Strong sense of urgency and attention to detail

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
