Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP Knowledge Management Counsel in New York, New York

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world's leading global law firms with more than 4,000 lawyers and staff in 30 offices is seeking a Knowledge Management Counsel to join the team and support the development of knowledge management for Practice Groups. The Knowledge Management Counsel will be responsible for implementing and supporting the group's Knowledge Management projects and priorities and will work closely with attorneys in the group to maintain and update matter/deal experience information, expand and curate the group's collection of "know how", and help the group more effectively and efficiently share knowledge. The Knowledge Management Counsel will work closely with the Knowledge Management and Practice Solutions teams to coordinate efforts, implement consistent processes and messaging, and track key performance indicators for the firmwide KM program.

This position can be based in most US offices and will report to the Knowledge Management Partner.

Primary Functions and Responsibilities

Matter Experience/Matter Profiling Efforts.

Working with practice group to identify key matter attributes that should be tracked to support the group's client and business priorities.

Working with the practice group to determine which matters should be profiled and how frequently matters should be profiled.

Working with KM+PS team to refine and update existing deal experience forms or to develop new deal experience forms, as relevant.

Reviewing reports in the firm's matter experience database to ensure that matters are profiled appropriately.

Providing content expertise in searching matter experience database for specific transactions using specific matter attributes.

Coordinate with the Marketing/BD teams on RFPs and Client Pitches, as required.

Coordinate with members of the KM+PS Team on statistical analysis and post-deal assessments and benchmarking.

"Know How" Efforts.

Helping to expand and maintain the group's knowledge library, including forms, models, precedent documents, legal memos, and other materials.

Assisting with the drafting, maintenance, and updating of model forms, templates, and checklists to ensure that they reflect the most up-to date changes in applicable laws, market stan dards, regulations, and best practices.

Working with the KM+PS Team to develop and implement practices and processes to govern the practice group's knowledge bank.

Reviewing materials that are submitted to the knowledge bank to ensure that they are profiled appropriately.

Coordinating with attorneys in the group at different stages of ongoing matters to identify work product that may be a candidate for submission to the knowledge bank to ensure ongoing submission of high-value work product/precedent.

Arranging for periodic review of materials in the knowledge bank to ensure freshness and relevancy.

Assisting in training associates on the knowledge bank platform to ensure that they are competent with submission and search functionality.

Assisting attorneys in identifying know how.

Coordinating with the KM+PS Team on the practice group's intranet page to ensure that the content is kept up to date and aligns with the group's needs.

Training/Education

Monitoring and updating attorneys in the group about important legal and industry developments and trends.

Working with partners and senior associates to identify practice group-related training needs, including assisting in the development and delivery of presentations on legal developments and key legal issues.

Acting as a practice group subject matter expert, resource, and escalation point for all KM systems and related processes.

Training associates on key practice group-focused KM tools and coordinating with other groups at firm such as the Research & Library Services team, to arrange for training as needed on third-party tool and resources.

Advising associates on use of appropriate forms, precedents, and other KM resources.

Attending trainings and external conferences to keep up to date with relevant developments in relevant legal markets and industries.

Advance KM Within the Practice Group

Establishing relationships with attorneys in the group to promote awareness of, and encourage engagement with, KM projects and efforts.

Looking for opportunities to introduce new tools and technologies to support the practice, including working with the KM+PS Team to coordinate pilot programs.

Seek out and track feedback regarding KM resources to support continuous improvement efforts.

General

Work with the KM+PS Team and other KM Attorneys to share best practices and ideas, identify projects that would benefit from cross-practice collaboration, and ensure consistent messaging about firmwide KM efforts and projects.

Practice Group KM Strategy

Collaborate with members of the practice and the KM+PS Team to assess current and KM priorities and areas of focus for the practice. The KM Lawyer will work with the practice group leadership and the KM+PS Team to refine the group's formal KM strategy and to identify priority projects for each fiscal year.

Work with the KM+PS Team and practice group leadership, identify key metrics that will be used to measure the group's engagement with, and adoption of, core KM systems and tools. Provide regular reporting to practice group leadership and the KM+PS Team.

Maintain substantive content relating to marketing and business development efforts.

Communicate regularly with other members of the KM organization to share best practices and encourage the sharing of knowledge within the group and the adoption of and engagement with key KM platforms and tools.

Experience/Qualifications:

J.D. from an ABA accredited law school required.

A minimum of 4-5 years of experience in a corporate or large firm environment.

Admitted to practice law in the State of the office in which the candidate will be located and in good standing.
