Lead Inspector/Chief Inspector
McMillen Jacobs Associates has an opportunity for a lead construction inspector in our New York office within our Construction Management Practice. The Inspector will work at the project field offices in the New York area, primarily on underground and shaft construction projects.
This position requires physical fitness necessary to make field visits and inspections of on-going construction including tunneling under various field conditions.
Manage inspection team of 10-15 individuals.
Review and provide input into field related Submittals, Requests for Information, geotechnical information and data, and CPM schedules.
Monitor the Contractor's inspection of materials arriving on-site, monitor off-site production activities and/or any other construction activities in his/her area.
Monitor construction for safety, quality, and compliance with Contract Documents, including schedule, standards, city ordinances, and agency requirements.
Use agency tablets and computer systems for preparing Inspection Reports.
Cover inspection tasks, when necessary
Coordinate with the contractor on a daily basis
Review daily inspection reports and contractor reporting
Verify and provide field quantities for payments
Provide construction technical support to the RE & ARE
Create inspection procedures and forms for daily use
Lead Inspector Meetings
Provide guidance and training to inspectors
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management from an ABET/EAC accredited program; or, 15 to 20 years of documented experience in construction and construction inspection related to tunnels and underground infrastructure
Engineer, PE preferred
NYC DEP experience preferred
NYC DEP BEDC Spill, LOTO, RCRA, BEDC 4-hours EHS Standards and DOT Training all preferred
10-15 years of shaft and tunneling construction experience
Knowledge of shaft excavation, blasting, concrete and freezewall preferred
Preferred current OSHA 30 hour - Construction or OSHA 10 hour - Construction preferred current First Aid and CPR training from a provider recognized by OSHA.
Knowledge of construction-related processes and industry practices
Water and sewer main, Drilling and instrumentation and Safety and environmental compliance experience preferred
Ability to wear personal protective equipment such as a respirator; meet physical demands of the position such as walking, standing, lifting to 40 Lbs., climbing ladders, bending, squatting, and crawling in tight spaces to safely access work sites.
Able to work with computers and other job-related technologies
Knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook preferred. Knowledge of Visio or AutoCAD a plus.
E-Builder experience preferred
Good written, verbal communication and organizational skills
Flexibility with working hours requiring some swing shifts
