Position Summary
Columbia University Libraries seeks a Library Assistant IV to work at the Burke Library. The Library Assistant IV has primary responsibility for the circulation desk, scan, deliver and inter-library loan processing, and course reserves processing. Daily responsibilities include:
Responsibilities
- Checks materials in and out; processing materials from offsite for use by patrons.
- Assists patrons in understanding policies and procedures.
- Processes requests and materials for inter-library loan;
- Processes daily scan and deliver and troubleshooting equipment and stacks maintenance (reshelving and shelf reading).
- Utilizes the circulation and reserves modules of the Voyager ILS.
- Provides training, assigning, and review of student assistants and their work.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Language test will be provided if interviewed
Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:45 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.
Schedule may be different during intersession and summer terms. Schedule subject to change based on staffing needs.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service within a diverse working environment.
- Demonstrated experience with office productivity and database tools (e.g., MS Excel).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated aptitude with recent library and/or other computer technologies.
- Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, including attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with knowledge of a field within the humanities; theological studies preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience working in a library setting preferred.
- Experience with Voyager or another integrated library system preferred.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Working bibliographic knowledge of at least one research language, German or French preferred.
- Familiarity with theology, religious studies, or church history preferred.
