Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP Litigation Docket Specialist in New York, New York
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Under minimal supervision, this position is responsible for calendaring all critical litigation and other deadlines into a calendaring database and ensures accurate calculation and maintenance of these deadlines.
Docket Specialists require litigation experience including knowledge of all federal and state court rules, as well as any local rules, and assisting with questions and special requests.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain the computerized docket system for litigation attorneys practicing in multiple courts and jurisdictions.
Review correspondence, pleadings, discovery, filings and deposition notices for relevant and pertinent deadlines and extensive daily data entry into the calendaring database according to firm wide and department standards.
Manage complex, high end docketing work (e.g. scheduling orders)
Research questions from attorneys, paralegals and/or secretaries regarding deadlines, calculations of deadlines, local rules, etc.
Respond to requests regarding calendared events, pleadings, and court procedures and modifications to compliance dates on the docket calendar.
Reference and research court codes, state and federal statues, court websites and Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw as appropriate.
Enter parameters, run, print and distribute reports as necessary.
Prioritize and process requests received from attorneys, paralegals and/or secretaries to docket litigation deadlines in active litigation for clients.
Train staff and attorneys on the computerized docket system and proper procedures related to docket/calendaring on an ongoing basis as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent.
A minimum of seven years of related experience.

Basic arithmetic skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide all units of measure)
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, brief correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present routine information in one-on-one or small group situations.
Ability to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions and deal with problems in routine situations.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a basic knowledge in the following software:
Document Management: MS-Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel), WorkSite, Adobe Acrobat, iManage
Research Software: Lexis-Nexis, Westlaw
Communications: Outlook, Office Communicator

Notary Public (not required but helpful)
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and may occasionally be required to move about. The employee is also regularly required to use a computer, involving substantial movements of the wrists, hands and fingers. The employee is also required to regularly communicate with others.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision and ability to adjust focus.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
