Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a Litigation Practice Coordinator to join our Litigation practice group. This role will work under the supervision and direction of the Litigation Practice Manager, working with the Practice Group Leader and Local Practice Leader.

This position will reside in the New York office and will be responsible for supporting the practice administration and operations needs of the Litigation practice. The Practice Coordinator is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s attorneys, advisors and staff, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. Above all, the Practice Coordinator must fulfill the needs of the firm in a manner which is consistent with the Firm’s Core Values.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Assist the Practice Group Leader, Local Practice Leader, and partners in the assignment of work to non-partner attorneys and paralegals based on capabilities, availability and developmental needs.

  • Assist with coordination of attorney and paralegal evaluation and annual compensation adjustment processes for the litigation practice, including completion of evaluation forms, submission of recommended compensation adjustments, and scheduling of debriefing meetings.

  • Work with Attorney Development personnel to coordinate the logistics of training programs for litigation practice personnel, to include professional development and knowledge management topics

  • Coordinate needs assessments for new hires, including laterals and summer/new associates, and work with Attorney Recruiting personnel as needed in the coordination of lateral recruitment and hiring.

  • Plan agendas, prepare presentation materials, and arrange monthly and other periodic conference calls, monthly partner meetings, and other ad hoc meetings and practice events. Follow up with Practice Manager, Practice Group Leader, Local Practice Leader and partners on initiatives arising from calls and meetings to ensure deliverables and goals are met.

  • Work with Accounting, Client Value, Practice Manager and Practice Group Leader to assist with practice budgeting, expense review and management, establishment of billing rates and proposed pricing and discounts.

  • Coordinate onboarding and manage contract attorneys as needed and ensure invoices are received and processed timely.

  • Establish strong rapport and working relationships with other administrative staff, as well as strong relationships with attorneys within the practice.

  • Foster and encourage a culture of superior client service, responsiveness and collegiality.

Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Minimum of two years of related practice support and experience, preferably in a law firm

  • Superior written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and sensitivity to the complexities of a partnership

  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, and ability to work in various software applications as needed

  • Strong service orientation, work ethic and attention to detail

  • Ability to quickly and proactively identify and analyze problems, develop solutions and deliver results

  • Strong analytical skills, with excellent business acumen

  • Ability to use initiative and judgment to accomplish results

  • Ability to read, comprehend and follow instructions

  • Ability to use critique of work to improve performance

  • Demonstrated poise and professionalism when interacting with peers, attorneys, office, firm and practice management, and outside business contacts
