Job Description:

Breaking News Editor, Business, Finance & Economics

The Wall Street Journal is seeking a seasoned editor to help drive breaking news coverage in the world of business, finance and economics.

The Journal is the premier destination for exclusive, distinctive reporting on the world of money - how it's made, lost, borrowed, saved, invested and spent. We're looking for an editor who can help organize and shepherd the biggest news in this space. This editor will work across the teams covering the whole universe of money: Wall Street and markets, tech, business - the U.S. economy writ large.

We're looking for a hyperorganized editor who's calm under intense deadline pressure and comfortable marshalling the resources needed to cover a big story. Curiosity, creativity and a deep understanding of the big stories animating markets and the business are required. We need someone who's keen to experiment with different storytelling formats - interactive graphics, video, audio.

You will:

  • Coordinate with editors and reporters across bureaus to develop coverage plans
  • Embrace video, audio and other non-text storytelling formats
  • Work closely with reporters and editors to own the biggest stories on their beats
  • Manage all aspects of story development, from conception to publication
  • Identify opportunities to tell stories readers can't find anywhere else

You have:

  • At least 10 years experience managing journalists at a high level
  • Exceptional project-management skills
  • A keen sense of the Journal's audience and a demonstrated ability to run a big news story
  • A steady hand under intense deadline pressure
