The Maintenance Supervisor in the absence of the superintendent is responsible for overseeing all maintenance of the shelter building and ensuring a clean and safe environment at all times.


  • Collaborate with the Superintendent in ensuring that all building repairs, etc. are completed on time and accurately. In the absence of the Superintendent or as directed by the Maintenance Director supervises staff.

  • Conduct daily and routine unit inspections to ensure that building is clean and in good repair. Reviews findings with Maintenance Director and Superintendent, collaborates in developing and implementing corrective measures.

  • Use MDS to track and monitor building maintenance and repairs.

  • In the absence of the superintendent oversees the maintenance of office and program areas and other common areas (inside and outside) of the facility to ensure that all areas are kept clean and free of dirt and debris at all times.

  • Assist with the repairs and painting of units and repair or replacement of furniture and appliances as needed.

  • Assist with the scheduling of inspections for smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in the units and ensure the replacement of damaged detectors.

  • Assist with the seasonal cleaning of the vents, radiators and air conditioners in the units; and the routine cleaning and maintenance of washers and dryers.

  • In the absence of the superintendent interface with WIN approved vendors and contractors to ensure the appropriate delivery of supplies and equipment. Ensures requested repairs are completed appropriately.

  • In the absence of the superintendent arrange for regular exterminating services and prepare facility for exterminator services.

  • Attend shelter and agency staff meetings, house meetings, supervisory and in-service training, as requested by supervisor.

  • Prepare all mandated reporting as required by supervisor, contract agency and funding agency in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Perform other duties as required by Maintenance Director.


  • High School diploma or equivalent required

  • Five (5) years' experience in facility management, repairs, plumbing and electrical systems, with three (3) years' of supervisory experience.

  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills

  • Clean NYS Class D or E driver's license

  • Extensive knowledge of building and HVAC systems

  • Must be able to work nights,weekends and holiday's as scheduled

  • Must be willing and able to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

  • Bilingual – English and Spanish helpful

  • Ability to interact effectively with the client population and representatives of government and private agencies
