YMCA of Greater New York Maintenance Worker/Porter II (Vanderbilt YMCA) in New York, New York

Through our talented staff and “LEAP” career framework (Leadership, Empowerment, Accountability, Personal Growth), we are committed to a people-first approach that fosters trust, inclusion, growth, and development for all.The Vanderbilt YMCA is seeking a Maintenance Worker/Porter who, under the direct supervision of the Building Engineer, will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing assigned areas, including such duties as mopping, dusting, and trash removal. May also be required to complete duties related to window washing, meeting set-up, pool cleaning, snow removal, groundskeeping, and other related responsibilities.Key Responsibilities:-Ensure the Vanderbilt YMCA is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned area and equipment. May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.-Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.-Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.-Ensures the Vanderbilt YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.-Replaces soap, paper towels and other supplies.-May set up furniture and/or rooms for events.-Strip and wax floors, also shampoo rugs as needed.-Follow standards of DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD and ECB Departments.-Follow YMCA Housekeeping Policies and Procedures.-Flexible Schedule; open to working nights and weekends.Desired Skills & Experience:-High School diploma or equivalent.-Minimum of one (1) to three (3) year of related experience and increased area of responsibility.-Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment, along with basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.-Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe and efficient use.-Obtain YMCA Housekeeping Certificate within 1 year of attaining position.-Must be available to work nights and weekends as needed.Benefits:The YMCA of Greater New York offers a variety of benefits to its staff members, including retirement benefits, medical, paid time off, free YMCA membership, and more!
