Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) is seekingamanager to support ouron-road transportation electrification work. RMIers bring a variety of skillsets and we welcome candidates with diverse educational and work backgrounds.
Program Overview:
Transportation is the single largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in theUnited Statesand 24% of global emissions.Toachieve emissions reductions in line with Paris Climate Accord goals, transformative change is required in the mobility sector over the next 10 years. To do this, we focus on vehicle electrification, charging infrastructure, and more energy and space efficient modes of transportation. We work with vehicle manufacturers, fleet operators, utilities, regulators, infrastructure providers,governmentsand others to improve the economics, availability, and desirability of clean mobility. We seek out innovative early adopters who are willing to experiment with and ultimately implement transformative solutions.
Position Overview:
As a manager, you are a creative problem solver who uses your quantitative, technical and analytical abilities to conduct compelling research and identify opportunities to accelerate transportation decarbonization. You will lead projects and teams to craft visionary yet practical solutions for our research questions and clients.In many cases, you will be the day-to-day point of contact for clients and stakeholders. You will support program leadership with fundraising, business development and strategy.
Your key job responsibilities as a managerprimarily include:
Project and Model Development

Leverage deep subject matter expertise and derived insights to driveexternal impact, forexample, through speaking engagements and publications.

Lead individuals and teams in problem solving and analytics to derive innovative insights with system change potential.

Develop models and frameworks that further stakeholder understanding.

Identify and pursue opportunities for impact at the project level

Draw on multiple skills sets including techno-economic analysis, facilitation and process design, and market and policy interventions.

Manage project structuring, planning, budgeting, and management.

Fulfill internal and external reporting requirements.

Fulfill internal and external reporting requirements.

Identify and resolve issues with clients and partners.

Create clear, compelling internal and external communications to convey persuasive arguments in a wide range of formats.

Effectively communicate and listen in complex situations, adapting to different audiences.

Develop a professional network of external experts and engage via phone interviews, conferences, and on occasion, respond to outreach requests.

Contribute publicly at conferences, share expertise in response to media requests, discuss our work with donors, and direct collaborative RMI projects.
People Management

Develop a culture of individual development, inclusion, and high-performance as a project team leader and contributor to program leadership.

With principals, structure and guide the work of more junior team members.

With principals, mentor and motivate more junior project team members.

Responsible for performance management of junior staff.
Required Qualifications

Master's level degree, equivalent, or higher, in economics, business administration, engineering or an energy-related discipline.

At least 5+ years of direct relevanttransportation electrification experience.

Experience managing direct reports.

A deep understanding of the economics of vehicle electrification, including how they are affected by policy, technology and infrastructure. This should be demonstrated through publications or project experience.

An existing network in transportation electrification and decarbonization.

Excellent time management, organization, entrepreneurship, and drive.

Excellent written communication skills, able to tailor messages to a variety of audiences to achieve impact.

Ability to travel 10-20% (once public health conditions allow).
Preferred Qualifications

Excellent stakeholder engagement and verbal communications skills. Experience in facilitation is a bonus.

Demonstrated quantitative skills, with proficiency in Excel, and an ability to guide junior staff in the creation of spreadsheet-based models.

Able to interpret results of sophisticated modeling approaches (e.g. statistical models, discrete optimizations) implemented in non-Excel (e.g. Python, R, Matlab) frameworks and quality control inputs and outputs of those models. The ability to develop those models is a bonus.

International experience in transportation electrification and decarbonization is a bonus.

Experience working directly with major vehicle fleets on electrification, with cities and states on electrification strategies, utilities, and/or EV infrastructure providers is a bonus.

Location:
This position will remain remote through the COVID-19 pandemic. Location is negotiable but must support the business needs of RMI's Carbon-Free Mobility Program. RMI has offices in Oakland, CA, Washington, D.C., New York City, Boulder, and Basalt, CO and would welcome the successful candidate to relocate to one of these locations. Location will be discussed as part of the interview process and may be used as a discriminating factor between qualified candidates.

Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $103,000-$121,000 with an additional 10% bonus target. This is dependent on experience that will be discussed and vetted through the interview process. Salary to be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
