As a Tory Burch Manager of Raw Materials, you are a cross functional partner, working with Director of Materials in translating design’s vision by developing and sourcing on-brand, on-trend leathers, fabrics, and trims.

  1. Support Design to meet all sourcing needs and to ensure design is kept updated on all material status

  2. Manages the material development and research for Sport materials, but not limited to tech materials

  3. Establish and provide regular Material Market relevant trend data as well as macroeconomic trends and developments

  4. Working closely with PD, design, merchandising and all related cross-functional partners to identify and commercialize materials

  5. Develop and execute regular in depth reporting of material management data focusing on material usage reports across our key material types (leather, synthetic and textiles) and categories.

  6. Provide material related risk management analysis by category and lead all activities on proactive risk management by taking relevant decisions on material/supplier changes.

  7. Monitor material deliverables from first proto through SMS through Production to meet calendar deadlines

  8. Coordinating worldwide materials sourcing efforts in tandem with development calendar and strategic sourcing strategies.

  9. Create and manage seasonal materials charts from concept through SMS

  10. Organize seasonal materials binders. Includes maintaining throughout milestone changes.

Development

  • Launch and develop advanced creation material projects to present to Design.

  • Perform research on suppliers’ capability and reputation

  • Interpret design needs and communicate daily with the design team, PD, overseas offices, and suppliers on standards and needs

  • Direct the compilation and review of all leather and fabric data sheets (LDS, FDS) for accuracy, quality, affordability, and compliance prior to issuance.

  • Collaborate with suppliers and shoe factories to resolve quality and delivery issues.

  • Maintains and issues all approved standards (quality, colors, color window/acceptable variation) to suppliers and shoe factories.

  • Collaborate with design and merchandising to direct development requests and development status

  • Schedules, tracks, and reports on all requested materials.

  • Reviews all material submissions with PD and Design to ensure execution to design’s request.

  • Collaborate with design to maintain updated, seasonal color palette and execute/distribute lab dips.

  • Coordinates with country offices (in-house as well as sourcing agent) to schedule, purchase, and monitor salesman sample materials.

Sourcing

  • Attend international and domestic material shows of all types and categories to identify new sources, ideas and research trends.

  • Searching actively for new suppliers and coordinating supplier appointments in tandem with the calendar.

  • Collaborate with suppliers and shoe factories to review performance in regards to quality and on-time delivery; suggest areas and timing of improvements.

  • Cost management

Product Integrity

  • Reviews all materials with an eye for quality and performance; problem-solve quality lapses.

  • Ensures that all components and constructions used are compliant for performance and restricted substances prior to production.

  • Tests questionable materials and treatments in development cycle for performance and RS compliance to prevent a lapse in production.

Administration

  • Set up materials on PLM. Implement PLM for all daily functions.

  • Maintains development tracking and adoption records.

  • Maintains records and swatches of liabilities and work closely with PD and merchandising to find ways to liquidate in MFOs.

  • Develop material care cards and identify materials that require them.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Interacts daily with design, PD and country offices regards all aspects of material development.

  • Maintains and distributes a Product knowledge in regard to materials for each market.

  • Product Knowledge training of cross-functional teams on new and advanced materials.

  • Participate and contribute in meetings.

  • Act as a resource when collaborating on materials and/or colors with other product categories.

  • BS/BA/BFA degree

  • Strong design aesthetic

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Footwear Material development or sourcing

  • Ability to communicate clearly both written and verbal.

  • Proven follow-up and follow through skills.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with shifting priorities.

  • High level of attention to detail and good organizational skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills.

  • High energy level, team player with ability to motivate others.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

  • Strong math and negotiation skills

  • Ability to travel as needed
