Job Description

The enterprise Sustainable Finance Team is a new bank-wide function responsible for driving progress and accountability for the enterprise ESG commercial strategy and roadmap. The team will bring specialized expertise to support and enable U.S. Bank lines of business to capture ESG business opportunity, working alongside business leaders from around the bank to mobilize capital towards ESG commitments and meet client ESG needs. The team will also own the governance and monitoring of enterprise sustainable finance frameworks, taxonomies and commitments. The Head of Sustainable Finance is a senior position responsible for building and leading a team that brings value to internal business partners and clients, and achieves enterprise ESG goals. This individual will be a seasoned business leader with ESG/sustainable finance banking experience and product knowledge, experience representing firms with major clients and outside parties, and demonstrated capacity for strategic leadership.

The Sustainable Finance Team will drive successful implementation of the enterprise ESG commercial strategy, support and enable lines of business to integrate ESG into their business strategy, and have the following four areas of focus:

Technical expertise, consulting and advising: Develops bench of sustainable finance specialists that can be leveraged across multiple lines of business; Supports business lines in critical enablers such as transaction execution, product innovation, process, and policy where specialized technical expertise is needed; Monitors and provides insight on ESG-related market trends and innovations

Cross business line support: Coordinates to drive and scale ESG opportunities that cross multiple lines of business, providing central hub for execution; Ensures business lines have relevant information on enterprise goals, products and cross business line client engagement strategies.

Sustainable finance frameworks and taxonomies: Leads ongoing real-time monitoring and tracking against enterprise frameworks and taxonomies, including recommendations for enhancements or adjustments to frameworks and tracking processes.

Strategy and governance: Develop and implement enterprise ESG commercial strategy, working in close partnership with the ESG Program Office, internal partners, and lines of business to set enterprise commitments; Lead sustainable finance working groups and committees responsible governing and reporting progress and advising on strategy and implementation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for enterprise ESG commercial strategy, roadmap and enterprise-wide execution

  • Develop and lead governance structure for sustainable finance framework and commitments

  • Consult and advise lines of business on ESG commercial strategy alignment and opportunity

  • E nsure ESG commercial strategy and messaging aligns with ESG corporate strategy

  • Represent the work of sustainable finance on internal committees and externally with clients, partners, and industry groups

  • Lead a team of sustainable finance specialists who provide a central utility of technical expertise aligned to the ESG commercial strategy and sustainable finance frameworks

  • Provide business lines with perspectives and insights on ESG market trends and innovations to inform decision making, client engagements and opportunities for differentiation

  • Provide expertise on enterprise goals and initiatives including Access Commitment, Net Zero and environmental finance commitments to encourage alignment

  • Develop and lead cross business line execution of and coordination of ESG commercial opportunities

  • Support and enable lines of business to develop and track targets and KPIs aligned to ESG commercial strategy and implement against the execution roadmap

  • Provide guidance, leadership, coaching and support to team members and engage in organizational direction as a member of business line senior leadership team

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or other related field (master’s degree preferred).

• Eight (8) or more years of experience in community development & renewable energy industry or relatable industries (within financial services strongly preferred).

• Five (5) or more years of people leadership experience.

Salary range reflected is an estimate of base pay and is for the primary location. Base pay range may vary if an offer is made for work in a different location. Pay Range: $168,725.00 - $198,500.00 - $218,350.00
