The Salvation Army of the Syracuse Area Marketing Associate in New York, New York


Reporting to the Director of Integrated Marketing, the Marketing Associate is an exciting opportunity to build out a new role in a growing team. This position will be responsible for creating and implementing digital and traditional marketing strategies that are engaging and tell a compelling story about The Salvation Army. The role will have two distinct focuses- traditional nonprofit donor/client communications, as well as marketing strategy for Salvation Army spaces available for rent, such as a summer camp. The Marketing Associate will optimize websites, create / design digital content and print materials, develop communications and marketing strategy in partnership with the Director of Integrated Marketing, and cultivate and maintain relationships with key constituencies.

The ideal candidate will be proficient in web design, graphic design, and Adobe Creative Suite. They will be passionate about storytelling and creating content that compassionately tells the story of those who seek assistance from The Salvation Army. They will be organized and able to meet deadlines across multiple simultaneous projects. A team player, this position will interact with not only the marketing team and the fundraising team, but also executive leadership and staff in varied positions and locations across the region.


  • Implement Search Engine Marketing and Optimization (SEM and SEO) strategy for websites across the region.

  • Create and design digital and print assets for donor and client communications that create a compelling story about the services offered by The Salvation Army.

  • Track metrics for success of marketing initiatives and referral sources.

  • Ensure website, printed materials, and digital marketing assets are updated regularly.

  • Manage social media pages.

  • Research similar rental spaces to compare advertising efforts and create promotional strategies.

  • Filter inquiries to rental staff or follow up as appropriate.

  • Maintain a network of location scouts and coordinate communication for TV/Film projects.

  • Maintain relationships with staff at all properties to communicate marketing needs, opportunities, and referrals.

  • Create and maintain relationships with referral sources for student and senior citizen apartment rentals, such as local universities and senior centers.

  • Other tasks as assigned.


  • A Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, web/graphic design, or similar field, and 2+ years of professional experience.
