HMH Books is looking for a creative and enthusiastic Marketing Manager to join the Books for Young Readers Marketing team. The Marketing Manager will be responsible for developing and executing marketing campaigns for select assigned titles across the Books for Young Readers list including titles ranging from board books to chapter books and middle grade to YA and brands including Curious George, Carmen Sandiego, Versify and more, with the goal of generating awareness, engaging consumers, driving sales, and growing brands. This includes marketing outreach to retailers and consumers including email newsletters, mailings and social media.

The Marketing Manager will report to the Assistant Director of Marketing, Books for Young Readers. The manager should be passionate about children’s books, publishing, and a detail-oriented, organized individual able to multi-task.

Responsibilities include:

Developing and executing creative and strategic marketing plans for a select number of assigned frontlist and backlist titles each season
Assisting with planning and execution of consumer festival and industry trade show presence possibly including BEA, ABA Regionals, BookCon, YALLFest/West and Comic-Cons
Constructing savvy, analytic-driven advertising campaigns with a goal of successfully engaging consumers and booksellers and driving title/author awareness and sales pre- and post-publication
Working closely with Sales to create retail promotions for assigned titles across appropriate accounts, including Indiebound outreach and promotions.
Creating various marketing materials such as sell sheets, promotional materials, title information sheets, including writing copy, coordinating with design, and distributing finished materials.
Creating content for e-newsletter communications
Developing social media campaigns and content to support marketing campaigns for Books for Young Readers
Communicating and collaborating effectively with other members of the marketing and publicity team as well as with other departments (editorial, sales, design)
Working closely with authors/illustrators to maximize campaign effectiveness


Minimum of 5 years in book publishing, bookselling or media is preferred
High school and college degree
Strong communication, organizational and writing skills necessary.
Travel may be required for this role
Curiosity and ingenuity.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Excel and Powerpoint is required.
Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator and other design tool files is desired.

• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
