Markets Risk & Control – Processing Risk Manager (SVP/VP)

Citi’s Global Markets business continues to enhance the In-business Risk & Control function.

This is a newly created role within the Front Office, responsible for contributing a new global program of work to design and deliver a robust framework of controls to mitigate the risk of material error in high risk manual trading activities caused by deficiencies in the design of processes and/or controls, or in their performance.

The In-Business Processing Risk Manager will be responsible for contributing to the design and implementation of the Markets Process Risk Governance and Control framework to manage processing risk, assist with the development of risk metrics, analytics, best practices, and optimal processes for the Markets business. The Processing Risk Manager will have a proficient level of understanding of the Markets business and financial services transactions, transaction lifecycle, and industry-best practices related to sustainable process and control design and implementation.

The role is part of the 1st Line of Defense (LOD) and will be a key part of the in-business risk & control team responsible for devising and delivering a multi-phase program of processing risk controls. This is an exciting opportunity for a practically minded, seasoned professional with an in-depth knowledge of Markets traded products combined with a clear understanding of both front office trading controls and back office operational processes and controls.

Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas. Accountable for significant direct business results or authoritative advice regarding the operations of the business.

At this time, we are able to consider both Vice President and Senior Vice President level talent for this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and oversees the application of operational risk policies, technology and tools, and governance processes to create lasting solutions for minimizing losses from failed internal processes, inadequate controls, and emerging risks.

  • Independently asses’ risks and drive actions to address the root causes that persistently lead to operational risk losses by challenging both historical and proposed practices.

  • Governance and oversight may include (not limited to) Processing Risk and related frameworks and governance, metrics and analytics, and process design/reengineering/minimum control standards.

  • Partner with 1 LOD businesses to ensure compliance with the relevant Firm policies, standards, and procedures.

  • Ongoing review of operational risk events and engagement in lessons learned exercises to continuously challenge and evolve the target state control framework.

  • Prepare regular risk reports and deliver targeted updates to senior Business, Transformation, Risk & Control Committees and legal entity Boards, also Regulators.

  • Serves as a subject matter expert for in-depth challenge of Processing Risk-related domains.

  • Issues Management (KPI/KRI/Corrective Action Plans) review and challenge to support compliance / embedding Operational Risk framework.

  • Analyzes a multitude of scorecards/performance management tools in an attempt to mitigate exposure (risk/financial/regulatory).

  • Develops and maintains relationships across the business and Lines of Defense to better understand and deliver processing risk mitigation solutions by responding to changes in the internal and external business environment.

Experience / Competencies:

  • Extensive relevant experience required.

  • Strong working knowledge and subject matter expertise in Markets traded products and related control principles

  • Expert-level understanding of process analysis and design principles.

  • Proven track record of dimensioning and creating strong controls and processes.

  • Outstanding communication and influencing skills through all levels of the organization and with external partners and vendors.

  • Exceptional relationship management skills; must be able to address and resolve conflict while maintaining relationships.

  • In depth knowledge of product transactional flows and operational processes and technology platforms supporting the Business and Operations group.

  • Ability to effectively communicate complex topics to a broad audience.

  • Detailed oriented with analytical skills, as the role requires a large amount of data manipulation and presentation.

  • Expert using Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook etc).
