Touro University Medical Residency Advisor in New York, New York
Overview
The Medical Residency Advisor will provide career counseling and residency advisement to the students at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (Harlem campus). The Medical Residency Advisor will be responsible for providing advisement resources, residency application guidance, and relevant information sessions/presentations to students in years one through four of medical school.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Host one-on-one and group advisement sessions for medical students in years one through four.
Distribute surveys and collect/analyze data as needed.
First Year Advisement
Introduce year one students to resources that will assist in determining their specialty of choice.
Host workshops/provide advisement on varietal topics, including: Introduction to Careers in Medicine (CiM), Introduction to building a Curriculum Vitae (CV), How to Choose a Specialty.
Second Year Advisement
Assist year two students with the exploration of medical specialties and early introduction to residency applications.
Host workshops/provide advisement on varietal topics, including Tips and Strategies for Specialty Exploration, Networking Within Your Field of Interest (alumni, clinical faculty), Introduction to the Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE).
Third Year Advisement
Assist year three students with the practical requirements of building a residency application; work with students to advise and gather the application items.
Host workshops/provide advisement on varietal topics, including: Exploring Specialties While on Clerkship Rotations, Preparing Applications, ERAS, and the NRMP, Selecting & Committing to a Specialty, Understanding the Main, San Francisco, Urology and Military Matches, Planning Parallel Applications, Researching Residency Programs & Utilizing NRMP Charting Outcomes Interactive Tools.
Fourth Year Advisement
Provide consistent support and guidance to year four students to prepare them for the Match process, interview season, rank order list, and the SOAP process.
Host workshops/provide advisement on varietal topics, including: Conquering the Match, Introduction to Local Residency Programs, Utilizing NRMP Charting Outcomes Interactive Tools, Personal Statement Overview, Mock Interview Practice (Utilizing Big Interview), Rank Order Lists, and the SOAP Preparation.
Qualifications
Education/ Experience
Bachelor’s degree required.
Some experience in medical student advising, academic advising, career counseling, and/or other relational fields strongly preferred.
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate and work well with other co-workers and students.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook
Travel
- As necessary (i.e. domestic travel for annual conference).
Maximum Salary
USD $60,000.00/Yr.
Minimum Salary
USD $48,000.00/Yr.
