POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Retail Analyst, Merchandise Planning is responsible for facilitating the growth and profitability of our brands through planning and analysis of each individual account.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Pre-Season:

Develop Seasonal Topside and Location Plans

Develop seasonal 6-month plan and location plans which support seasonal strategies

Determine sales, markdown rate and optimal receipts at topside level

Drive the location planning process through development of door proposals to maximize sales and profitability Assortment Planning

Work closely with Merchandise Planning to provide insight and sku needs into Range plans

Work with Sales counterpart on development of strategic pre-season assortment plans

Participate in key milestone meetings with account verifying assumptions for assortment plans and projections

Prepare Ladder Plans in advance of season to ensure that sales and profit goals are met

Corporate Budgeting

Participate in Budget process providing history in appropriate templates

In-Season:

OTB Management

Update, forecast and maintain sales, markdowns and receipts for weekly OTB’s

Partner with cross-functional team members (Sales, Merchandise planning) regarding in-season strategies pertaining to markdown (including markdown projections), promotions and inventory shifts.

Participate in OTB calls with Account partners and lead our internal OTB review meeting

Business driving initiatives

Update performance vs ladder plans to understand performance at item level

Work closely with sales to drive sales and profit utilizing ladder plan tool

Analyze current business, historical results and market trends to proactively identify risks, opportunities and creative solutions to maximize business results in concert with Sales

Build effective cross-functional relationships and skillfully navigate/influence business decisions

Provide topline insight

Prepare and distribute Weekly business update report providing insight into prior week’s performance

Prepare and distribute weekly Sales flash

Prepare recaps for market appointments to present during market

Prepare relevant hindsight to present assortment decisions

Responsible for forecasting and reporting door performance

Identify and monitor top door performance

Drive performance in these doors through analysis and partnership with Macy’s buying office

Focus on maximizing opportunities at the style, class, cluster, region and climate levels

Profitability

Responsible for managing profitability projecting and communicating VA needs

Ensure that strategies to mitigate risk are being executed and communicated

Assist Senior Planning Director with the creation and updating of monthly Management deck. Update with high-level performance results and insights

Budgetary:

  • Responsible for pre-season plans, open to buy, markdown cadence, and VA projections. Provide feedback on budgets for cost shipment, average selling price, and general expenses for all assigned accounts in partnership with respective account executives

Decision Making:

  • In conjunction with sales counterpart and/or manager, analyze business, identify opportunities/issues, and provide recommendations on next steps. Make critical decisions with regards to allocating dollars/units at the account/ door level to positively impact business. Many important decisions are made on a day-to-day basis; major decisions are reviewed and collaborated on a team basis. Position is expected to work very closely with respective account executive to provide guidance and input on all related decisions. At this level, decisions are expected to be much more independent and larger in scope/impact ensuring alignment with the strategy managing the proper execution based on business needs

Environment:

  • Our environment is fast-paced with constantly changing priorities. This individual will need to be able to juggle responsibilities across multiple brands simultaneously

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 5 years wholesale/retail planning experience

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Strong analytical/retail math skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Excellent command of retail math concepts, applications and statistical analysis

  • Ability to think strategically and implement tactically

  • Excellent time management/project skills

  • Ability to multi-task and establish strong cross-functional relationships

  • Strong PC Skills (MS Office, particularly Excel)
