Practising Law Institute Mobile Product Manager in New York, New York

Working in an Agile environment, and under the direction of the VP, Marketing, the position will be the final word on requirements and releases for all mobile projects. This role will involve collaboration with senior leadership across the organization to learn and understand the strategic goals of PLI and the role of the digital products portfolio, working to maximize business results, improving customer experience, and enhancing PLI’s brand value.

Your responsibilities as Mobile App Product Owner (MAPO)

  • Involves active collaboration with leadership across departments (Marketing, Membership, Publishing, Programs, IT, Accreditation) to formulate roadmap, conduct iteration planning, overall strategy, and delivery through regular releases to consumer facing mobile apps.

  • The MAPO will perform continuous prioritization of mobile roadmap and will work closely with the Website Product Owner to ensure seamless web to mobile optimization.

  • Understand and leverage the Marketing team’s efforts on personalization and apply where applicable into the mobile app user experience.

  • Validates the use cases and business value of new initiatives through managing user testing sessions, gathering data, and sharing findings with the executive team for prioritization.

  • Bring the voice of the customer into the planning by soliciting critical feedback such as customer usage, customer behavior, survey feedback or other business metrics, and incorporating into development ideas for mobile apps.

Maintains an ongoing understanding of PLI users, the PLI business, internal technology, and mobile products under development while following Agile methodologies.

  • Final determination of requirements and “go or no-go” determination around mobile releases resides with the MAPO, who will work in collaboration with business analysts, subject matter experts, engineers, and others throughout the business to translate the roadmap into well-defined features and approved user stories that balance requirements, user needs, technology realities and business constraints.

  • Work with UI/UX resources to guide the development of interface standards and ensure that features are delivered in conjunction with wireframes and design specifications.

  • Support project management protocol by coordinating communication between development teams and internal stakeholders to address goals and project timelines.

  • Assist with development of and attention to budgets provide project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends, including tracking of revenue through allocated usage of the online app over time as well as the growth in adoption and usage.

  • Keeps current with advances in technology including current state-of-the-art capabilities of mobile apps and project management strategies by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks and shares knowledge with team.

  • Works closely with marketing and design teams to plan and develop mobile friendly content, including push notifications, style, and layout with attention to business goals and budget while ensuring that content is tailored to meet SEO needs and maintains ADA compliance.

  • Provides training to membership, customer service and marketing teams.

  • Demo product iterations to the rest of the company, including to both technical and non-technical teams.

  • Work with and manage outside vendors, as appropriate.

  • Other duties, as assigned.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • 10+ years of relevant digital product management experience and knowledge of most current, innovative mobile technology required.

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a master’s degree in Business Administration a strong plus.

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.

  • Excellent understanding of and experience with mobile technologies, mobile design, and user experience.

  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills are a must.

  • Experience with Agile and SCRUM approach to development strongly preferred.

  • Very comfortable working within a hypothesize-build-measure-learn environment that will focus on delivering incremental value quickly to end-users.

  • Ability to generate data-driven product insights and understands that product decisions must be backed up with data to support business and product decisions.

  • Displays leadership qualities, project management skills and the ability to engage with others to achieve product vision.

  • Self-starter with a proven track record for taking ownership and driving meaningful results.

  • Working knowledge of web analytics tools, A/B testing and qualitative feedback tools to inform product decisions.

  • Diplomatic with strong listening skills and takes a collaborative approach.
